Be prepared... Palin will likely do VERY WELL tomorrow.
It's looking like a sinking ship at the moment. But I think we all need to be prepared for the likelihood that the ship will be at least somewhat righted when Palin speaks tomorrow. She will probably do very well. Think about it--the speech is no doubt being written for her, she'll be very well prepared, she is a pretty good speaker (certainly way better than McCain and so many of the other repugs that just put you to sleep), and they whole thing will be scripted with no questions whatsoever. Many people will be watching, just out of curiosity, and many will go in with low expectations of this "hockey" mom who everybody's been criticizing. Many of those people will therefore come away with a much more favorable impression than they went in with.

In short, I think we'll see a bump up in opinions of Palin. But we need to keep our eyes on the ball and think in terms of the next 8 weeks. All of the issues and scandals are still there, and more will likely be coming. In addition, Palin will eventually have to face questions and will have to debate Biden.

We're in good shape in the long run, IMO, but I do think everyone needs to be prepared to see a bit of a bounce in the McCain/Palin numbers after she speaks tomorrow.

1. It will be a lot like Bush giving a speech to a military audience.

They are expected to cheer and applaud on cue. It's all for show, nothing else.

26. No, it will be like Reagan speaking to his beloved Rethugs.
She's a former broadcaster, she's good looking and has the speaking skills.

She's the perfect vessel, the future puppet President.

2. Yes, she will do well tomorrow, they have good speechwriters, and she is soooo "perky"
but have no fear, Hillary will take care of her! I hear Hillary is going to campaign more now that this new VP choice is here!

3. Maybe, but her voice will still sound like an ice pick in the back of your head
Her speaking voice is like those winged Nazgûl in The Lord of the Rings movies. I hold my head and fall to the floor whenever I hear that voice.

4. She has nowhere to go but up
It's a scandal a minute, with no end in sight.

But the speech will be a bore. I'll stake money on it.

5. I agree they'll get some kind of bounce but remember, the day after McCain will have to speak.
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 12:16 AM by Mojambo
And if he's as corpse-like as I've seen him in the past that bounce will dissolve into a big dip.

13. And after her speech, she will have no excuse not to do the
rounds on the talk shows. He can't hide her til November, but watch him try.

11. She's a big idiotic goof
She's going to sound silly as hell as soon as they shine a hot light on her. She has never gone nose to nose with the press.
Forget the speech -- no one is watching.

Whatever convention bounce McBomb gets will be eaten up by the fact he nominated a harpy, fundie, thief and liar.

12. and if general expectations for her remain low...then her upcoming debate will seem great
she's apparently cunning and politically savvy

she could score some major points and, given the generally low expectations being established for her, seem all the better....

this is all dangerous territory

15. our talking points
per the truth out post here:

mccain/palin anti-american. ideology shared with bush/cheney.

these are my additions:

destroyed american way of life.
destroying american values with hypocrisy
actions speak louder than words: McCain/Palin anti-American to the core
McCain/palin Cheap shots, low tactics, and cover ups underestimate the American people
America will be a laughing stock with these two -- no moral authority at all internationally

If we can stay on point with a simple message (and not back it up with logic- just repeat it louder and then shame whoever is arguing with you by sneering "where'd you hear that? Fox? ha ha!".

I know that sounds horrible, but I for one am at war for America and I am doing it with the morans in the world. It's dumb enough for them to get and has that high school appeal that those idiots fall for. they want to be cool, not one of us "loser liberals. " But now, we're the cool ones-- oh, and remind them, Jesus was a liberal.

:-)

16. I'll wait for the pundits to weigh in...
I watched some of the McCain Circle Jerk tonight, but I honestly can't stand the woman's voice.

I keep expecting her to come running on stage in a short skirt and letter-sweater, while shouting Fundie/GOP cheers through a megaphone.

Thank "Jod" for the mute button.

18. I Could Give A Rat's Ass
I won't be watching. Any "juicy" stuff will be out here for me to read or look at.

My hope is these asshats continue to throw red meat at their thinning herd...many have left the GOOP thanks to all the hatred and fear that gets thrown around. Many are starting to see Gramps not as a "Maverick", but as "Wreckless".

Palin needs to introduce herself...if she does that by coming off "hardass", it's not the best way to influence new friends. My bets this party is so tone deaf and off the deep end, this entire week could scare more people than convert.

I'm seeing shades of 1992 at this coven...the bile is flowing and it's turning into a game of can you top this. The contrast with the DNC is sure to be noted by any moderate or independent...as will which party is the one that can and will address their problems...and which wants to play games.

The conventions are a week-long commercial...not just for the candidates, but for the entire party. The DNC was exclusive...Obama invited. The RNC is inclusive...Gramps is saying if you disagree, you're not an American.

Granny Barracuda is under a lot of pressure right now and she better hit a "home run"...but in which park? To far right field? This lady can't hide in the cocoon and has a lot of questions to answer.

She won't. She'll be well prepared and can give a speech. It won't be her thoughts or her words, but for people who don't know better, it'll sound good.

24. I'm expecting the same thing. If they don't get a bounce after their convention, they are in BIG
trouble. Even if they do get the bounce, McCain-Palin is a pathetic ticket and is extremely beatable, especially compared to the outstanding ticket we have.

so the fact she can read a speech (written by someone else) and read it well is not surprising
