This issue is such a lightening rod, McCain wouldn't have offered nor would Palin have accepted if either of them knew. What's more plausible is that the daughter came to her this past weekend, saying, "Uh, Mom, there's something you should know...."

The windfall of the matter is all the Republican copy it's generating about ensuring single, teenage moms 'unconditional love and support' in their time of crisis - what great reference it'll provide for the future.

but the reports are so nebulous. That they were 'involved' was probably no secret, that she was pregnant probably a rumor that if her parents ever heard they probably dismissed as political slander. I just struggle believing any parent aware of such a crisis would accept a position exposing their family to such public scrutiny and relevent discourse. But maybe her judgment really is that bad?
