Exclusive Poll: Obama's Swing Leads

Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 By TIME STAFF Barack Obama introduces his running mate Joseph Biden in Springfield, Illinois
Jeff Roberson / AP

An exclusive TIME/CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll reveals that Barack Obama leads John McCain by several percentage points in three crucial battleground states—Nevada, New Mexico and Pennsylvania—while McCain tops Obama by 1% in Colorado.

Obama's widest margin is in New Mexico, where 53% of registered voters said they prefer the Democrat to 40% who favor McCain. Obama also holds a five-point advantage in Nevada (49% to 44%). Both states went narrowly to George W. Bush in the 2004 election.

1. I really can't tell you how many anti-Obama ads are running in CO
I hope we've made a lot of ad buys for later in the campaign.

2. Primary trust fund vs. general election stipend
McCain is outspending Obama now because he has to burn through all of his primary money. Once the general election funding begins after his Convention, he'll be on a limited budget.

3. Notice how the the 3rd party candidate was Nader and not Barr?
Barr is the invisible candidate while Nader, who barely registered in 2004, gets all the attention even though Barr is picking up around 5% in states like North Carolina and Georgia.

In the end, only November 4 counts.
