We are Outta Here Saturday Morning (Gustav)
The knot in my stomach is not going away. Gonna spend tomorrow and Friday battening down the hatches and hit the road early Saturday morning heading for my wife's family in Kansas. I'm a chicken, going through Katrina was enough nonsense for one lifetime.

1. Good advice. Gustav's projection is beginning to look a lot like Katrina.

16. What sort of insane hurricane...
Would have the procreative nodules to go up against an old goat like you? Aren't hurricanes born at sea? Have they learned nothing about fucking with the chiefs? ;-)

4. Sending good thoughts your way BOSSHOG
You have time to prepare and make sure you take what you need with you. I had a kit ready when we lived in S. California just in case the "big one" hit....

11. Yeah, we keep a grab and run kit
ready. I was rather nonchalant about Katrina. We didn't leave the area but were in a very safe building, however it was scary as hell. I ain't going through that again.

34. We need a preparedness forum
Dude, I woke up yesterday to a fire bearing down on the house from a TOTALLY unexpected direction (the Sacramento River), and I was sitting there like a tool like, "Okay... if it gets closer, the dogs... I need to get the dogs...let's see... my spotting scope and bins... um... art.... irreplaceable art... duhm..."

Fortunately the fire stayed on the other side of the river and the fire department did a bang-up job of putting it out, but it was worrisome.

36. The fires while I was living in S. Calif is the main reason I finally
put a kit together. I also made a list on a 5x8 card and kept it next to the computer. It was of everything I wanted to take with me (in addition to the kit). Don't forget to keep some cash in your kit too :hi:

15. Katrina did a great job
of thinning out our trees but we still have quite a few left. And Gustav could be a gentleman and no knock out the electricity. Thanks to Katrina we were without juice for two weeks and we were the lucky ones.

10. We went to Hattisburg
a few weeks ago and the lack of trees on the interstate is startling. If we don't get "hit" my wife will have a nice visit with her brother and sisters. Its worth the gas bill for that. I hope you have a safe week. Hopefully we can post next week about what didn't happen to us.

17. I'm glad you're erring on the side of safety
and getting away from the coast, in general.

This far out, there's no telling where it will hit, but it also looks like there's another one winding up just behind it.

Stay safe. Nobody who's ever been through a hurricane thinks you're being overly cautious. Those things are mean.

It's certainly a good time for to visit family inland.

21. Thats how I rationalized it
If, after the fact, we didn't need to leave, My Wife and I will get a good visit with her brother and sisters and nephews and nieces and the trip will be worth it for that. Our next sked visit is next May so I know my wife will appreciate this unscheduled visit. And I have no desire to go through another Katrina episode.

28. Thanks Sweety
Its the ONLY thing on New Orleans radio right now. They have the busses ready to transport 30,000 people with the capability of more if necessary. Contraflow will most likely start no later then Sunday morning (contraflow is to turn all interstate lanes as north only.) NOLA SPCA closed at 2:00 today and their charges are being transported to other states. Its full tilt boogie right now. Mayor Nagin has left the (D) convention and is headed back to town (not that that will doing any good.) I believe the city would be better off if he stayed in Denver. I Hope to post next week about all the stuff that didn't happen. Love you guys.

31. Thanks My Friend
We'll probably go up Highway 71 and head west from Nevada to Yates Center and then north to Topeka. Stopped by my favorite watering hole today and told my old fart buddies that these hurricanes were going to drive me to drink (as I sucked down another Bud.) Another one said he ain't leaving cause his Fridge is full of beer. (Old Fart humor.) I hope we have a chance for that beer someday My Friend.

50. Hey AZ
there's usually something positive to come out of this kind of nonsense. And the route takes us right through my Alma Mater, The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. We may stop by and I can pick up the latest Razorback paraphernalia to aggravate my LSU neighbors with.

Lordy, I hope about this time next week I can post about all the horrible things that didn't happen. Love you guys!!
