DU experts...how would you respond to this
"You must be misinformed. If Obama gets elected you will be paying $12/gal (which he supports) for gas AND your taxes will go up. You can take comfort in knowing that the gas you are buying will continue to fund radical Islam extremists since we will not drill on our own land and that should really keep you from being scared. Not to mention all of the taxes you will have to pay to help pay for the cost of socialized medicine. I know all of you Dems want change and I guess that’s good, because once Obama’s done raises our taxes; change is all we will have left in our pockets"

so yes, if you make over $600,000 a year you will see a tax increase. Otherwise you will pay the same or get a tax cut.

On the oil you can't really respond, that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. You can remind them most of our oil comes from Canada:

Responding to all these concerning emails?

The response is: RUBBISH. Where has Obama advocated $12 gas? I swear, do you really need to post on DU -- let alone seek "experts" -- to address this junk?

"I know that it can take a lot of time to inform yourself on the issues and the candidates so I don't hold it against you personally that you haven't had a chance to learn about these things. Let me help you out..."

You said that was why we shouldn't vote for Gore and why we shouldn't vote for Kerry - and hey dumb fuck, what you describe is what happened under YOUR PARTY's WATCH.

Was that really so hard to think of???

Schweitzer is on CSpan. Watch it over and over and over and then you'll know how to answer these stupid questions without bringing the stench to DU.

9. Obama will direct TAX relief worth $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a married couple.
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 03:32 PM by Breeze54
www.barackobama.com/pdf/factsheet_energy_speech_080308.pdf

Obama’s comprehensive New Energy for America plan will:

• Provide short‐term relief to American families facing pain at the pump

• Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the
next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.

• Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined

• Put 1 million Plug‐In Hybrid cars – cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon – on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America

• Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by
2025

• Implement an economy‐wide cap‐and‐trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050

Immediately Provide Emergency Energy Rebate.

Barack Obama will require oil companies to take a reasonable share of their record‐breaking windfall profits and use it to provide direct relief worth $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a married couple.
The relief would be delivered as quickly as possible to help families cope with the rising price of gasoline, food and other necessities. The rebates would be fully paid for with five years of a windfall profits tax on record oil company profits. This relief would be a down payment on Obama’s long‐term plan to provide middle‐class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief. The Obama energy rebates will: offset the entire increase in gas prices for a working family over the next four months; or pay for the entire increase in winter heating bills for a typical family in a cold‐weather
state.

In addition, Obama has proposed setting aside a portion of a second round of fiscal stimulus
to ensure sufficient funding for home heating and weatherization assistance as we move into the
fall and winter months

• Crack Down on Excessive Energy Speculation.

Current loopholes in Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulations have contributed to the skyrocketing price of oil on world markets. Barack Obama will enact simple legislation to close these loopholes and increase transparency on the market to help bring oil prices down and prevent traders from unfairly lining their pockets at the expense of the American people.

• Swap Light and Heavy Crude, Release Oil from Strategic Petroleum Reserve to Cut Prices.

The United States’ Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is there for a purpose: to help Americans in
times of crisis. Barack Obama believes the doubling of oil prices in the past year is a crisis for
millions of Americans and the transfer of wealth to oil producing countries, many of them hostile
to our interests, is a threat to our national security. With the goal of bringing down prices at the
pump, he supports releasing light oil from the SPR now and replacing it later with heavier crude
more suited to our long‐term needs.

MID TO LONG TERM SOLUTIONS: NEW ENERGY FOR AMERICA
Our nation is confronted by two major energy challenges –our dependence on foreign oil and global
climate change – both of which stem from our current dependence on fossil fuels for energy. Barack
Obama believes we have a moral, environmental, economic, and security imperative to address our
dependence on foreign oil and tackle climate change in a serious, sustainable manner.

11. Some good information on offshore drilling.
For example:

The oil companies already have access to some 34 billion barrels of offshore oil they haven't even developed yet, but ending the federal moratorium on offshore drilling would probably add only another 8 billion barrels (assuming California still blocks drilling off its coast).

and lots more...

Take your pick between the only two choices left to Americans: taxes and socialized medicine vs. death and destruction for humankind.

15. Obama won't be seen holding hands with the leader of the country whose citizens brought us 9-11
Nor does he have anything to gain if Bush's oil buddies make even more billions in profits. It's on the record that only people making over $250k will be seeing tax increases.
Something tells me that Western Europe is doing fine with socialized medicine - God forbid we ever resemble the rest of the industrialized world.
But, don't worry, McCain-Bush policies have done a great deal to push us away from the middle class society we were during the 20th century and toward the under class society that Exxon and Wal-Mart have in mind for us.

17. Easy
By how many per cent did gas go up under Clinton?
By how many per cent did gas go up under the subsequent Republican administration?

How much do you make? Obama said that if it's under $250,000, your taxes won't go up.
Do you make more than that? And if so, are you in bad financial straits even so?
Why? Do you live in the penthouse of the Trump Tower, or what?

Show me where Obama said he was for socialized medicine, and I'll stand with you.
Universal health care does not necessarily socialized medicine. Germany doesn't
have socialized medicine. It does have universal health care, and it costs less
than health care in American. Put THAT in your aspirin bottle and swallow it.

Drilling in additional spots will put exactly ZERO barrels of extra oil in the USA
for ten years, and even then not all of what is produced will be sold in the USA.
We could start building solar energy complexes and wind energy sites NOW and have them
online before new drilling produces the first drop of oil. It would cost less per
year than we spend in 2 months of the Iraq occupation. The right will dispute the
figures, as they come under "inconvenient truths," but any decent environmental
site will back that up to one degree or another.

We are borrowing money of the Chinese to give to the Arabs and Iranians for their
oil. That is Bush's strategy, not Obama's, or even Clinton's strategy.

Yes, we'd like to change much of that, and it will put not only a few more dollars
into most of our pockets, but dollars that are not 2/3 of a euro any more, but closer
to the near parity it was when Clinton left office.

That should do for starters........

25. The last line is rather witty and clever though.. Even if it is not based on reality...
Usually I ask them what they are basing their assumptions on, and for them to cite specific examples in which such a thing has happened(in regards to health care). As for the gas prices, I simply point out the current has prices.. I would probably ask them how much they have in their pockets right now too... :P

26. that's pretty stupid
since Obama has plans to promote alternatives to oil - wind, solar, natural gas. As far as paying for 'socialized medicine', I and my employer are already paying $6517.92 for health care. This from an income of about $14,000. My guess is that progressive taxes would be cheaper, although that is probably not a proposal.
