Interesting observation in today's AJC: where's all the McCain bumperstickers?
‘We must close the bumper-sticker gap!’
By Jay Bookman | Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 11:48 AM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

For the moment, there’s a lot of talk over a supposed split in the Democratic Party. But in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s speech, I have seen no Obama people complaining on or off the record about her performance; the only people who profess to believe that Clinton held back in her endorsement are Republicans, and the speech wasn’t targeted at them anyway.

Besides, I suspect that John McCain may have a bigger problem than Obama with his party’s base. That lack of enthusiasm for McCain shows up in obvious ways, such as fundraising, and in more subtle ways as well.

For example, I realized the other day that I see a lot of Obama bumper stickers and almost no McCain stickers. Now, given the part of town I live in, that’s not surprising.

But I’ve asked conservative friends who live in more conservative parts of metro Atlanta, such as Cobb and Cherokee counties, whether they have seen McCain bumper stickers. And they both say no, they don’t. Very few if any, they report. Not many yard signs either.

Bumper stickers don’t decide elections. But I think they do accurately reflect the amount of enthusiasm generated by each candidate among his base, and that enthusiasm in turn helps drive voter turnout in November. The person with a bumper sticker on his car is more likely to vote, and more likely to encourage others to vote.

So I’d be curious — anybody out there seeing McCain bumper stickers?

More Bush/Cheney '04 stickers on newer cars than '04 here in N.E. FL and there's usually a "Marriage = Man + Woman" stickers on the same vehicle

Only ever saw one for Hillary, lots of Obama and I love the Darwin Fish emblems. I need to get one of those myself.

5. I'm on the far side of Atlanta from you, IIRC you're around Stone Mountain
Where I live makes Cobb look liberal..

A few Obama stickers but I don't think I've seen a single McCain one.

There are probably more old Bush stickers than Obama ones though.

Funny thing, when I was growing up in Decatur, Stone Mountain was Klan territory, I actually rode a bicycle to the top of Stone Mountain before it became a state park.

Amazing I'm even alive.

6. My neighbor two doors down has just put a McCain
sticker on his car which surprises me since he's lived there for years and never before displayed any sort of political leaning. McCain? He must not be paying attention.

8. I saw a McCain sticker yesterday afternoon on my way home
from work. I live in Cherokee County, GA, the reddest of the reddest counties. I am still seeing Ron Paul stickers.

13. Live on westside of Los Angeles (admittedly liberal). I have seen
exactly ONE McAnus bumpersticker and 100s of Obama bumperstickers. The McAnus bumpersticker was on the back of a Jeep Land Yacht.
