Here's from the NOAA:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT07/refresh/AL0708W5_sm2+gif/083515W_sm.gif

This I found on my local paper

http://cmsimg.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=BL&Date=20080827&Category=NEWS&ArtNo=80827005&Ref=AR&Profile=1006&MaxW=550&MaxH=650&title=0

You'll have to click on it but they predict that it'll be a CAT 3 by Monday early morning so it looks like this thing will touch down MOnday night.

I pray something causes this thing to peeter out

1. It's temporarily downgraded to a TS as it passes over the edge of Haiti . . .
However, that will change pretty quickly once it moves back into the Caribbean this PM. Projected Cat 3 by the time it reaches central GOM.

2. this one could get nasty -
it will be over that bathtub (the gulf) for a long time.

I bet it will be every bit of a cat 3.

Glad it missed Florida - still drying out here.

8. Sitting In That Warm Gulf Water...
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 07:53 AM by KharmaTrain
:scared:

There are still people trying to rebuild their lives and homes in NOLA...and it's been revealed that the repairs to the levees and canals haven't been successful. Plus nothing has been done to prevent the Intercontinental Canal, the one that flooded the lower 9th ward from surging again.

I've dreaded the possibility of a storm sitting in the warm water of the gulf...here's hoping it moves fast and makes landfall in unpopulated areas. All DUers in the path, please be safe!!!

10. I guess we'll find out how effect that newspaper filling in the levees is.
Wonder how much coverage of this storm the media will give with the convention frenzy?

11. If It's A Cat 4, It May Just Blow The RNC Off The Front Page...
If there's something the cables love is a good hurricane. There are reporters who relish the chance to stand out in 100mph winds and do a Rick Sanchez.

Also, Friday marks the 3rd anniversary of Katrina...a storm that still has deep scars not just in NOLA but across the Gulf coast. A strong storm churning off the coast will be a major story that could easily blow boooshie's appearance at the RNC off the radar (and I suspect many GOOPers and their corporate media allies wouldn't mind that one bit).

Cheers...

12. Absolutely but while it's worst for the citizens of wherever it hits
any GOM hurricane is bad news for the Rethugs.
None of their politicians can leave their area for the Convention (or else)
Drill, drill, drill will be a crazy slogan while rigs are being cleared or destroyed
Any NOLA hit will be the full stop of eight years of clusterfuck after clusterfuck.
If M$M ignore the hurricane for the GOP convention, the proverbial $hit will hit the fan.

If the hurricane would only hurt the Rethugs I might have a different view, but it's ordinary folks who will suffer most here.

13. There You Are...
I was wondering if you were OK. Glad to see you're here...relatively high and dry.

Yep...any storm going towards NOLA is sure to raise the scepter of Katrina...and what a split screen that would be...georgie speaking to the coven on one side of the screen and videos '05 on the other.

After my recent visit to NOLA, I didn't see a (D) or (R) on the storm damage...just a lot of people who had their lives uprooted and left to fend for themselves.

:hi:

Obama will have every noted democrat, including himself and Biden, down in the aftermath helping to take care of people.

20. YEP, I can see it now...Gore, Bill, Jimmy, Kerry, etc not to mention himself
and Biden and their wives, Hillary of course.

***** I tried to group this as former standard bearers first, w/ Hill sort of in her own category, now I am adding all the other candidates of this year and 2004 as a group because I won't remember ALL their names. (Maybe even the Edwardses will come out of seclusion because regardless of all the recent personal news, this type of thing makes him angry )*****

(Everybody except Lieberman who will be in MN licking boots.)

Betcha Al is already working on a plan just in case, probably with Jimmy!

(of course the cynical media will say it is all for show, that we are just capitalizing on tragedy etc. because they are such dipsticks.)

NOW what would it take for Gustav to keel just a little to the left and hit a less populated area of Mexico? I know he isn't likely to head up the Atlantic coast at this point..or veer out to sea in some kind of strange aberrant behaviour

This could be huge in both over shadowing the Republican convention and giving a killer reminder to the greatest failure of the bush Administration. Not that I want anything to happen to anyone BUTThe United States of Amnesia needs reminders of how bad things ARE and have been.

15. I'm sure somebody's doing a heckuva job!
I will have to call the regional FEMA office again. Yesterday they told me they

were "mindful of Gustav." Maybe that's been upgraded to "thinking about."

FEMA step 1 - Thumbs up butts
Step 2- Cleaning thumbs for reentry:evilgrin:

18. Louisiana is the bullseye of the target right now
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 08:55 AM by Wednesdays
Yesterday, the chart (the MIT compilation of several forecasters) was a little bit fuzzy--it generally showed the possible landfall anywhere along the Gulf coast from Brownsville Texas to the Florida panhandle.

Today it's a whole lot more focused. Looks like the consensus is that it will strike Louisiana with winds of at least 80 knots.

21. I hope the people of NO have wised up enough not to count on the NG or FEMA this time
They should be gathering emergency supplies of food, water, medication, etc. and preparing evacuation plans right now if they haven't done so already.

Today is Wednesday. If the storm stays on its predicted track they still have at least four full days, including a holiday weekend, to make preparations.

I once had a fundamentalist Christian girlfriend who refused to make any disaster preparations
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 10:41 AM by slackmaster
Her attitude was, in so many words, "God will take care of me." People counting on government to come to the rescue immediately after a storm look no different to me.

And again, the storm will hit at the first of the month... ...when people are tapped after paying rent/mortgage and other bills.

It's been just over three years since Hurricane Katrina made landfall. It's still fresh in peoples' memories. If you really want to prepare for a disaster, you don't wait until the last minute. It doesn't cost very much to store away a few days' worth of non-perishable food, and fill a few plastic milk jugs with tap water.

23. Consider this much - if Katrina had happened one year early and we reacted the way we did
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 10:26 AM by LynneSin
There would be no way Bush would be in the White House.

Republicans will work their tailbones off to make sure they don't fuck up like last time. What could really be scary is if McCain makes Jindal his VP and then Jindal spends the week in New Orleans working on the hurricane.
