2. No technology without science and book learnin'

They're deluded and willfully ignorant to an astounding level. By the third witch burnings, they'd be running low on talent, eating their seed corn and contemplating cannibalism. Hell, it's not so different from what they're doing now.

Additionally, hubris and arrogance will not be selected in the survival of the fittest. Again, not so different. Real population growth didn't begin until basic laws were codified that kept people from killing, robbing and raping one another at will. The Republics don't believe in following the law, so they're screwn on that one too.

None of them would even make it as a priest or witch doctor of the most rudimentary sort - coveting power is one thing, keeping it while the population suffers and conditions decline is quite another. And could you imagine Pat Buchanan or one of his ilk as head shaman? The population would be dying off faster than at Jamestown - of course it would all be the will of God.
