5. Please let me know how dishnet goes..
I've had the same experience with them and I'm thinking of changing over, but I don't want to go from the frying pan into the fire. I'm paying too much just to watch religious programming and infomercials.

11. Yeah, I feel like I'm paying $70/mo JUST to watch
Project Runway.

I'm so shallow.

10. You're jumping out of the skillet and into the fire.
I've never been treated so bad, or more outraged than the 2 times I've had to deal with Dish Net customer service. They may have the best programing, but, I'd give my money to Murdoch before I'd ever endure their lies and insults again.

Call up DirecTV and threaten to cancel, you'll probably get a discount. I got rid of them the day that Murdoch bought them, and they offered me several deals. I made the mistake of going with Dish.

16. didn't mean to spark a dish v direct (ala mac v pc... hillary v obama....sigh)
we looked at both - for the progamming selections we found more of the shows/stations we wanted to watch on direct

yeah, there's a "block" of religious programs, but there are also "blocks" of sports stations that we also don't watch - we've been with direct for almost a year, haven't had any problems with billing/service -

whereas a neighbor of ours have dishnet and have had many many problems with service. last month they lost all reception - for no reason, there was power, no storms, nothing blocking the dish, and connection to/from dish seemed fine. they called for service, took 2 days for someone to show up, and the person told neighbors their TV was broken, but had no explaination why it didn't work on the other 2 tv's they had, then they were told it was the dish and would have to replace it - that set off a round of phonecalls to prove they were still under warranty/guarantee.

long story short - almost 2 weeks later they had it working again, and then get billed by the "service vendor" for equipment/labor that was suppose to be covered by dishnet. and yes, they are leaning towards dumping dish for direct

guess the service etc varies by region

17. I've got Verizon Fios now.
The service is a little sketchy sometimes, and they tried to pull a fast one last month and raise my rates. They did straighten it out in one phone call.

21. I just had the best customer service experience I've ever had, and it was with Dish Network
I had a DVR get taken out in a lightning storm. I was reluctant to call them because I thought I'd have to pay major $ for a replacement. They shipped me a new one via UPS. They told me it would take up to 5 days, but it arrived the next day. I had to place a call to have it activated, and they were friendly quick and professional. The box box came with a prepaid UPS sticker for return shipping and pickup.

I was impressed.

12. Before you change from Direct TV, call
their Customer Retention Dept. They tried to charge me $102 for two "free" receiver boxes. I was all set to change to the Dish Network, but called this office first. They were super nice and gave me everything I asked for at no charge. It costs them more to get a new customer than it does to make their current customer happy. Give it a try. (BTW, I got this piece of advice from Clark Howard.)

19. Same here.
They charged me for a moving fee that was supposed to be waived.

Only problem I had with getting the fee removed was a two or three minute wait on the phone.

15. excellent choice, my friend
Direct is owned by Murdoch.
Dish has some wonderful channels that DTV doesn't like freespeechTV on 9415 and University of California TV on 9412

I'm very surprised.

24. I don't think DirecTV is doing it in my area, in any case.
Maybe we should call and ask in an encouraging manner. :)
