9. Yes indeed
Those events we followed were great and both ceremonies were breathtakingly beautiful. Fabulous fireworks tonight and that duet was divine.

Excellent Olympics.

10. Just got back!
Some mixed feelings but it was a great show. Thanks to all the wonderful people I met who worked so hard and made me feel so welcome - I hope they will take some time to bask in what they achieved.

16. The realities. The poverty, the fact there is no such thing as individual rights.
It's something that clicks in after a few days. When you walk off the beaten path and see the conditions people really do live in, when soldiers film you in broad daylight and when you discover that many of the Olympic "volunteers" were actually military - and when you try to log into DU and discover the discussion forums are blocked.

So, that is the other angle but you could also feel the pride of the Chinese about what they had done and only a very cynical person would not be happy for them and share the pride.

19. I saw some of the coverage of events on spanish-speaking tv here.
At least they were watching beach volleyball 24/7. My husbandwas coomplaining earlier that the different events were spread out on NBC, MSNBC, USA, and Universal HD. Probably some other one, also. Anyway, we were joking about not getting to see high jump, long jump, and other tack and field events.

21. They showed nearly everything here.
One night it was endless coverage of ping pong on one of the channels and synchronized swimming on another. Okay, so I could have lived without that. But I saw all the swimming, a ton of track, gymnastics, diving, etc., etc.
It was great.

20. Beijing did great. NBC's coverage was too concentrated on
Phelps, Dana-somebody, women'sbeach volleyball, and gymnastics. There were alot of track and field events that were not shown at all on prime-time. NBC is too limited in creating drama for a select few. I was disappointed in NBC.

22. I agree...the first week's coverage was pretty good...but zero coverage of fencing or kayaking...
...and the second week's coverage was simply atrocious...track and field got torn to shreds...I saw nothing of the high jump, triple jump, javelin, hammer, discus, but a buttload of hours devoted to American athletes that couldn't hold onto a damn baton...

Overall grade C+....and the only reason for that is because the online coverage was so far superior to the "human interest story" bullshit they foisted upon us hour after hour in primetime...

I swear there was maybe 10 minutes of ACTUAL competition for every hour of coverage...
