Why is the New York Times employing David Brooks?
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 09:35 AM by brentspeak
Is it because of the pathetic leadership of the paper under Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr.? That hedge fund managers are on the Times' board of directors?

Notice that ever since "Pinch" took over the New York Times in 1992, the paper has become more and more of a watered-down corporate tool. Not right-wing Republican, but DLC-ish/"centrist" corporate Republican. The favored mouthpiece of the global equity vulture capitalist crowd.

5. Self Fulfilling Punditry
Bobo is a "villager"...a weathervane of the beltway bubbleworld that dominates corporate media. It's the "conventional wisdom" game played on the telephones, drinkie-drinkie parties and other winds inside that elite world and then spew onto print and the teevee. And because Bobo has a prominent place at both tables, he is viewed by each as being valuable. And because he gets the exposure in both places he then gets a lot of telephone calls and invites to the parties...and whatever he picks up he spews that then is considered "respectable" cause someone is paying him...and so the game goes.

The other day someone, in an attempt to understand why the Times has Billy the Bloody on the payroll said it was probably just to embarass the right wing but putting one of its most stupid pundits out in front of a greater public eye.

Since the beltway corporate media winds have blown to the right for the past 20 years, so does Bobo and he's comfortable with it. The lack of a solid response from the left during these years blew the center of that weathervane to the right so that in Bobo's eyes anything that's right wing is "moderate" while anything centrist or to the left is "radical". But he's not alone in that view.
