I can't believe anyone with a name like that even got elected! He's the Mayor of Denver if anyone doesn't know.

4. I know there was a very RW Republican senator called Hickenlooper in the 50s and 60s...
whom I know of in connection with his strong opposition to civil rights legislation, and rebelling against more moderate party leaders like Dirksen who supported such legislation.

I hope, for the sake of the people of Denver, that this Mayor is not similar!

10. Not at all.
He's a pretty good guy.

The police union hates him, because he formed a citizens review committee. There's an awkward situation.

5. Any Hoosiers remember the Harlow Hickenlooper Show?
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 09:59 AM by frazzled
It was a kids show we used to watch in the 50s and early 60s. I think he had Three Stooges movies and sang Happy Birthday to kids in the audience in a memorable fashion. He wore a straw hat and a striped jacket. My friend Becky and I went once to the studio ... I think it was her birthday.

If you don't believe me:

6. Great name for a beermeister and a quirky name for a big city
mayor, but somehow the two fit... Hick's ok...

7. Be nice, he's one of us...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hickenlooper

He's primarily responsible for the Democratic National Convention being in Denver, a GREAT city.
The last time the convention was held in Denver was 1908.

He transformed Lo-Do from a dangerous slum, to a jewel of shops, baseball, and eateries.
AND HE OWNS THE WYNKOOP brewery, one of the first micro-breweries in the city.

He may not be liked by everyone, but he's got more backers than he does opponents.

I wish I was going to be in Denver next week, a great time will be had by all.

Please, say a prayer if you pray for peace in Denver next week.
I want this thing to go off without a hitch.
The only people I want to see in jail is Rush Limbaugh "Operation Chaos" assholes.

12. Gawd would THAT be a bitch to put on a yard sign!
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 10:16 AM by davsand
Just makes me shudder at the thought...

I design original yard signs for our local candidates, and a couple of my fundamental goals are that the name has to be readable at a distance and can be read in one look--imagine it as if it is a 30 MPH drive-by.

Good LUCK making HICKENLOOPER readable at 30 miles per hour!

17. LOL! Napi is my dogs nickname. His name is Napoleon. He's
a darling little Bichon who is celebrating his 16th BDay this coming Tuesday!

I didn't intend to demean Hickenlooper at all. I just found his name amusing. Much the same as I found Huckabee's name! I apologize if I offended anyone, especially the Mayor!

Hickenlooper going around town with a change maker around his waist (over his suit coat) putting change in expired parking meters! It was hilarious.....the perfect nerd - bean pole with a mop of hair. the only thing missing was the pocket protector and the tape on glasses!

21. He's an interesting guy - very intelligent, trained as a geologist
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 01:13 PM by hatrack
He worked for about five or six (IIRC) years as a geologist, but lost his job when the great oil boom of the early 1980s went bust.

He then started up Wynkoop on a shoestring, and made a real go of it - not bad for living in the land of Coors! ("That's not flatland beer! That's no city beer! That's no beer suitable for human consumption - that's Coors!) :puke:

He spoke at ASPO Denver back in 2005, so he's pretty aware on energy and environmental issues, too.
