WHERE'S MY CELL PHONE ???? !!!!!

Jesus .... don't think I ever really cared about that damn thing so much until I signed up for the Obama 'text message'. Usually just leave it on the desk when home, but now it's with me 24/7, even around the house. If working in the yard I never had it on me .... always dropping it in the dirt, but that's the price it will pay until I GET THE FRICKING TEXT !!!

Catch myself checking my left pocket making sure it's there lately .... 'won't leave home without it' ... and making sure it's 'on' and next to the alarm clock before going to bed ..... the thing better be fricking charged too !!!

Oh well looks like I won't get the text again tonight though (never big into 'text messages') ... sigh ... but I'll be up late again anyway watching the Olympics off and on all night just in case Obama rings. Thank God the Olympics are in China this year ..... my mom knows I'm a big sports fan and wants me to call her whenever (day or night) 'Obama Calls' ..... 3 a.m. .... no matter she's 77 years old and is eating this shit up.

This whole scenario reminds me of young love ..... sitting by the phone .... waiting for 'her' to call ..... the chic .... you just hooked up with .....
fricking Obama playing us like a fiddle. Too funny.

Couple Question to DUer's:

1. Which DUer do you think will be the first to post the actual 'text contents' here on DU? Who has the quickest draw .... or who will get the post up first? I have a few in mind .... but want to hear who you think is on it? First instincts are usually a good choice.

2. What time of day do you think Obama will send his 'text' and is there any significance to why he might do it at a particular time?

Okay just up watching the Olympics AGAIN LATE NIGHT and had some time to kill to get this out there for the heck of it. Is anyone else in this boat? Peace. :)

other than emergency notification testing from my employer, and messages from the phone company! (I'm pretty new to cell phones)

4. I fricking hate my cell phone .... it's an evil necessity at this point in life though.
Always rings at the wrong time. But for Obama I will go the extra mile. Playing us like a fiddle. :)

5. I swear mine only goes off while I'm taking a nap or going
to the bathroom or about to drive somewhere. I get very few calls but it's uncanny.

Totally playing us. I don't have a text plan included either, so I'll have to pay a few cents to get it!

10. I still have a problem hitting the right button or buttons to find the text .....
on the phone ...... gesh ..... whatever happened to the 'answer' button and the 'hangup' button ..... that's all I usually use anyway. Get texts now and then and boy oh boy are they a surprise !!!! Like a new adventure trying to figure out how to read the damn things on the cell every time !!! :)

Why is it a necessary evil? I don't have a cell phone. Never have and I am pretty sure that I never will.

7. Oh ... moms old age ...... we all (family) have to 'be there' for her ...
if that makes sense. Emergency's .. um business at this point in life .... it comes in handy instead of finding a phone booth and returning a phone call from a 'page' right away. Etc... etc... by the way are phone booths out there any more? I actually didn't mind pulling over and finding a pay phone before cell phones ..... was just part of the routine. But the competition got cell phones ... arrrg ......

Good for you though if you don't need it ... I recommend don't get one ever. Pain in the arse.

14. I won't address mom's old age...
I'm dealing with the same thing (and a bit of guilt of about not being available). But, as far as business goes? Some of my clients complain that they can't get ahold of me when they "need" me. I tell them that I have business hours and a business phone. I do understand that there are some contemporary businesses that would not survive without a cell but, many of my clients have adopted my philosophy and no longer list their cell number as a business contact number. My husband has had a cell for the past 5 years. Three people have his number. Me, our daughter, and his mother.

22. Good for you and your husband........ I remember when these things first came out ....
I was dating a former fiance (long story irrelevant now) who was a real estate agent. I would get a bit 'perturbed' when going out to dinner or something and that 'thing' of hers (the cell phone) would go off. It was this big bulky thing she would pull out of her purse ...... and oh well ...... was like eating alone at times. I can laugh about it now .... but man maybe that's where I got this phobia against the things in the first place. :)

9. They're handy for reporting auto accidents, calling ambulances,
or keeping track of kids. Other than that, they're a nuisance.

13. Very true ...... just make sure your kids keep them in perspective.
NO calling or texting while driving. Last text a young lady sent out here one night this week was reported a moment before she lost her life in a car accident at like 2 in the morning. Sad story in the papers. 16 frickin years old. Texting while driving !!! What a waste of a young life ..... because she couldn't wait to get home to 'communicate' or whatever. Anyway ...... yeah they are handy at times too.

18. Then there's Texting-while-driving's cousin
Yakking-while-driving.

I am amazed at all the drivers (and even bicycle riders) I see yakking it up on their cells while paying absolutely no attention to the friggin' road! Argh!

17. How many accidents do you see...
that would require an emergency vehicle. I can imagine that there might be one but I can also imagine that there might be an opportunity that a portable defibrillator would come in handy, too.

23. Around here, I've had several near misses
Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 03:22 AM by Art_from_Ark
Roads are narrow, with lots of blind spots, fast drivers, and cell-phone yakkers. The chances of getting into or coming upon an accident here that requires emergency personnel (and that includes accidents where only vehicle damage occurs) is relatively high.

On edit: One night recently, while coming home from work, I passed by two different accident scenes. In both cases, the cops were already there, and since both places were far from public telephones, and one place was in the middle of nowhere, I assume that the cops were called from a cell phone in at least one of the cases.

12. I only got one because it's cheaper than land service
(I get a discount via an employer) and I work more than one job and giving out a list of phone numbers for people to reach me was getting ridiculous.

I also wanted one because one of my dogs is an escape artist and when he got loose and I was hunting for him, then running home to check the phone, etc. I swore I'd get a cell phone. He hasn't gotten loose since!

I just joined today to answer this post. I was wondering what you all were doing while we wait
for the tm, I too feel like the first date waiting for a call and it feels wonderful, that old
anticipation I've never kept my cell phone so close before no even for a relationship but it
appears to me that the msm are trying to interfere with our relationship with Barack they want
to turn on the porch light just before the first kiss. They have not allowed Barack suporters
to enjoy one sintilla of enjoyment during this entire campaign each accomplishment was met with
"What does Barack have to do to appease ..... No enjoyment for you now they want to take this
away as well I heard one of the heads on CNN say "we want to get the word out first. Why can't
they let us enjoy one small part of this process Barack is trying to set up something special
between himself and his suporters so we feel involved. Not evryone can go to Denver or make it
to campaign events for a variety of reasons. I myself have very limited funds but gave a minor
donation. This is my special something. Will you avoid the news to get your message or isit
just me being anal, how would you prefer to get your message.

Thank you for your comments, and welcome to DU! :hi:

as we wait patiently along with every one else for Obamas text. Yeah this is how I want to get the news too, not over the TV but by the TEXT. Let the MSM eat their own gobble gobble, and sorry for the expression ........but ummmmmm regurgitate or whatever on their own spin.

Our text from Barack is 'personal' in a way, and 'revoloutanary' too .... making everyone getting the 'message' part of something bigger than each one of us, but ...... all at the same time ..... together as one.

Pretty cool huh? :) ....... your not being anal ..... your just like the rest of us ..... fed up. Time to get on it. And move on. Again welcome to DU !!! Peace.

I'm convinced that I'll get the text while I'm in the bathroom or something because that's what always happens when my mom calls me. And when you have a mom who's easily convinced that something happened to you just because you don't answer her calls and WILL CALL THE POLICE on you for it, it's a problem. Well, I probably exaggerate a bit now but in high school, she was pretty uptight. I kid you not, but I have had the experience of having to help my family put out an APB for my sister just because they couldn't contact her when she decided to stay out longer with friends and didn't have a cell phone.

28. Okay do you have a sister who when she gets to work has to
'ring' your mom? Mom doesn't answer .... sis just 'rings' her to let mom know she got there okay. Then when sis gets home she 'rings' mom again. This goes on 5 days a week while sis is working. Further more sises son ..... my nephew does the same thing and so does my niece. I refuse.

When I visit mom, the phone is ringing at all hours of the day and night ..... rings once and then it hangs up. Someone got to work or home and who knows who ???? Drives me nuts when I'm over there. Yeah ...... paranoia runs deep ......

29. Oh man, that is pretty bad. Well, at least I have a cell phone for my family to call.
When my mom was trying to contact me through a land line, it was hard to get her calls because she'd be expecting me to follow my childhood bedtimes, which is basically delusional of her to expect of me as an adult. So it was hard for her to contact me while I was out and she was expecting me to be at home until I got my cell phone. But she always has such bad timing when she calls. >_<

30. That's par for the course for parents ..... bad timing on calls.
Anyway guess I moved away from the area long enough to not fall into the 'ring me' trap my sister and the rest of the family has got accustomed too. It's weird is all I can say. Anyway guess it's okay to have relatives worry bout your whereabouts ..... but there is a point ........ okay it's going on 3 a.m. here ..... better get a couple of hours sleep .... Barack is calling in the morning. ;) Have a great evening. Leave a guess who he's gonna pick or something and I'll check it in the morning. Oh and don't let your mom know you were up so late tonight either! :) Nice talking to ya peace and goodnight. :hi:

I was asleep for a while before waking up to do some late night DU lurking. It was cool to talk to you too. Do you mind if I buddy list you?

PS What's worse about parents is their ability to shanghai siblings into harassing you. I've been prodded into nagging my sister by proxy when my sister was too good at dodging my mom's calls and I've also had text messages and emails from my sisters telling me, "Hey, call us because Mom thinks you're dead." Believe it or not, I've had this happen to me more than once.
