The first week was great. I usually love track & field but we sucked. Time to move on.

1. Meh. I never got Olympicked in.
I couldn't believe it when the local 4:00 news was giving breathless updates from DFW airport today. Their camera was pointed at an empty gate waiting and waiting for the gold medal gymnast's plane to roll in.

11. There's not enough money in the world to get me to go to an airport
with thousands of other people just to perhaps get a glimpse of a complete stranger.

9. Yep... It has never been the same since
and the innocence of athletes just hanging out having some fun & winning medals aspect was gone forever..

It's morphed into such a "business" & almost police-state thing..I am just not interested anymore

12. The thing is ....
prior to that, the Munich Olympics were a great. No where near the commercialism of today.

16. Reminds me of the old joke
"..other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?..."

but I get your point.. It used to be about the athletes & the sport..no matter the country..It's all so jingoistic / commercialized.. I don't enjoy them at all

You've absorbed the message well, Grasshopper.

Now go get yourself a beverage. Anything you feel like. How 'bout a Coke?

15. Gold medal in women's soccer!
The main event as far as I'm concerned: A shutout win over Brazil vindicates Hope Solo and given the team redemption for the bad loss in last year's World Cup.
 :toast: :bounce: :loveya: :headbang: :woohoo: :applause: :patriot:
