wtf is wrong with this nation? why does it hate its own?
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 05:34 PM by RainDog
how many other western democracies refuse to insure that its citizens have affordable health care and medications?

how many other western democracies would allow a mother who stayed home with a disabled child to become destitute because of this?

how many other western democracies would put a woman in a position in which, b/c she had breast cancer, she had to quit a job and faces the very real problem that her insurance on a new job (which she does not have yet, btw) would refuse coverage if she had a relapse and needed additional treatment for breast cancer?

how many other western democracies would put a mother in a position in which she cannot even afford asthma medicine b/c she lost her job?

how many other western democracies treat women like they inhabit a third world country if they put their families first and then try to make a living after a divorce (not of their makings.)

how can people in this nation make millions and complain about having to pay taxes when mothers volunteer at schools or food banks or a myriad of other jobs, and then put these same women in a position that they cannot earn a living wage if they are left to fend for themselves in middle age?

wtf is wrong with people in this nation? how can a nation that has more people professing Christianity than any other western democracy also be the nation that treats its citizens the worst? how does that good christian teaching reconcile that b.s.?

the examples I noted above are the real life experiences of women I know.

both parties in this nation should just stfu about "faith" and all the other window dressing when they treat mothers like pieces of shit to kick to the curb.

it's shameful.

edit for typo

1. I think what's wrong is there is too much capitalism and not enough socialism.
Many people do support some notion of universal health care access, but many people also don't determine how resources are allocated in society either. Only a small number of people determine things, and it often takes a lot of money to win a congressional seat or gain a position of power, something only a small number of people can do easily.

Everyone else must struggle. Those who do struggle can win, but for those who find it easy to pay for a campaign or gain power, the odds seem to favor them winning over the poorer people.

3. And even that is a myth... we do not live in a capitalist country
but in a fascist country

This is a critical thing that people NEED to understand.

This country stopped being a capitalist country at least two generations ago.

Sorry... been readying Adam Smith and our "economy" at the upper levels does NOT fit the definition of classical economics one IOTA

As to socialism, we have plenty of it. it is corporate socialist, where we have socialized the risk and privatized the wealth... see fascism. But that is the closest we even get to socialism

5. Frankly, I don't think capitalism ever existed if we wanted to get into detailed definitions.
Capitalism exists in an environment of perfect information coupled with perfect competition. There is no such thing as either.

7. we spend $400 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR ON DEFENSE
against what, I don't know. This country spends more than the next whatever number of countries combined on its' defense industry, WHY? Is it because we are that hated in the world?

With that kind of money, used properly the entire population could have healthcare, schooling, food. When you ask "what would Jesus do?" you get the response, "He wants us to prosper".

I wish I could give you an answer as to "how", but I can't. I just know I'm tired of economic terror, healthcare terror, keeping the home terror. How can we stop it? I'm here and willing to join.
