Woo-hoo! My fellow Catholics, there's been a break in the long red line:
The Bishops and cardinals have been adamant on banning the ordination of women and married men. There is a group of women who were properly trained and then ordained by a Catholic bishop. This preserves the Apostolic succession and all other requirements except for the gender of the priests.

http://www.romancatholicwomenpriests.org/ordained.htm

The hierarchy has been fighting this by excommunicating any one who is involved or who attends one of these ordinations.

Maryknoll priest Father Roy gave the homily at the ordination of some women priests.

Aside from telling him not to do it again, the Maryknoll Order as declined to excommunicate or otherwise discipline him.

Mods: This is not an attack on the Catholic Church but information on an ongoing struggle within the Church.

2. It's not as strong a statement as I'd like to see, but merely declining to
discipline him is a HUGE thumb in the eye to the Vatican bureaucrats. The Maryknollers have been fighting oppression for decades;

this may mean they're getting ready to fight oppression in side the Church.

5. Yes, it's a big deal
I'm not a Catholic any more. But I know a bit about Maryknoll. My mother always donated and we used to get their little magazine for decades. You probably know it. I read it every month. Those people witnessed oppression right up front and personal and figured out exactly why the people of third world countries suffered deprivations. It radicalized the Order in general, imo. You can't live it day in and day out and not know the score.

Good for them! I'm sure that there's a lot about the Vatican that galls the heck out of Maryknoll.

6. A Maryknoller spoke at our church one Sunday
talking about lay members, my daughter leaned over and said, "you are NOT joining." She read my mind.
