So tell me, what's the difference?
And who is Russia's Black Jack Pershing?

8. Is Russia invading Spain too? Geeze, they're everywhere.
Oh, wait, maybe you're talking about when General Pershing invaded Spain in 1916.

7. Russia will not use its ICBMs on Georgia.
They may be the heavies here, but they do seem to know what they're doing.

11. They may not use ICBMs against Georgia
but if this causes an escalation across Eastern Europe then the world gets a little shakier.

12. Not gonna happen.
Big countries don't fight each other any more; they just beat up on smaller countries that lie on the fringes of the non-integrated economies. If Georgia just had a real democracy and better internet connections, Russia wouldn't have dared to go in there.

6. Honestly, I don't see the Russians having much trouble in Georgia.
The Russians not having the same level of terrain, mobility, and technology troubles that Pershing faced hunting down Villa. It'd be nice if the little guy could dodge the big bad Goliath, but I don't think it's gonna work in this case. In grabbing ahold of South Ossettia, Russians are protecting their own ethnic group. Any incursions into Georgia after that will not present too much trouble. Their objective is to hold onto the major cities, not run down a guerilla band. It's an entirely different dynamic than 1916.
