HOLY SHIT!

This is their solution to the problem of protesters. This is something being done by OUR SIDE!

This is simply not acceptable, and the City and County of Denver ought to be fucking ashamed. I live here, and I apologize in advance to these protesters for what's going to happen to them.

WE'RE ALL FASCISTS NOW!

Oh yeah, protesters at this event will include Code Pink. I know there are tons of Code Pink supporters on DU. Do you really feel comfortable with this?

1. I think putting them in a nice, patchouli-scented, carpeted lounge...
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 11:17 AM by liberalmuse
done in deep, rich, soulful colors, scattered with love sacs, and indy music blaring in the background (maybe Gogol Bordello) and all-you-can-drink Starbucks lattes would've been sufficient, don't you? :stereotype overload:

5. I don't think they will.
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 11:22 AM by liberalmuse
Provacateers don't seem to get arrested. Just the peaceful liberals standing next to them. I think fascists have some sort of secret way of recognizing each other.

on edit: I misunderstood the question, but think the answer above still applies.

I am glad I will be nowhere near denver, pray that all of you who are going plan to be safe - there wil no doubt be "sleeper cels" of freepers there to cause the violence and get everyone arested...

:scared: so, does anyone believe that story NOW - about the traincars and the other facilities that have been contstructed all over the country...?

I am a co-founder of our local CodePink chapter. My friends and I joke that at least we'll be in there together so it'll be fun. Yeah, right.

6. Probably every convention city since 1968 has done planning in case of mass arrests.
The city would be remiss if they didn't. I'm sure there are plans in Minnesota too.

8. Oh come on.
These holding areas are only in the case of mass arrests due to a riot, NOT peaceful protests.

There has to be some control of protesters. What if a group of fundies block all the entrances to the convention? Should they be allowed to? Should Obama be denied entrance due to the protesters? Should the convention be canceled due to a sit-in?

There is always a chance people will go beyond peaceful demonstrations and cities have to have plans just in case. If they didn't, some people here would blast the city as incompetents afterwards.

12. Oh, you are an anarchist.
Never mind the logical discussion points then.

Everyone go crazy, block up all conventions, fight, burn, destroy, have at it folks. Anything else is fascism.

The posse comitatus act is defunct, thanks to Warner.
Electric stun devices have been known to kill people.
Domestic spying is now legal.
Torture is legal.

What don't you get about this?

20. Where do you draw the line?
Protesters should be able to peacefully protest. However, there has to be some rules or no one would even get into the convention.

So, instead of bitching. What's your solution? What if things breakdown and riots do happen?

I'm all ears to hear your solution.

27. No, the contention is Denver shouldn't be prepared for a roit.
It's the simple act of preparing for a possible situation that seems to have some riled up. Probably the same people that would complain about Denver if something happened and there was no preparation.

Still not one person bitching has provided a set of rules for the protesters or said what should happen if a large group go beyond peaceful.

Can anyone here update us on GOP plans to silence dissenters at their convention??

23. yes it looks like that. and what they did there was to the dem and was outrageous
but that was the repug convention where a lot of angry dems protest against repugs. and cops continually stepped over line on that. but why are we saying this is an attack on dems. the dems wont be out there protesting to get their ass in jail, unfairly.

i dont think they will be arresting any asshole repugs either.

i dont get why they even have this fro the dem convention

it is the repug convention the arrests are made by majority repug cops that dont like dems speaking out

and that's why Democrats will be protesting Democrats.

To be sure, there will be some fundie nuts in there, but there will be far more Democrats.

28. It's bullshit, they are trying to create a "buzz".
The protesters will be at the RNC. Maybe some at the DNC. The powers that be are trying to turn this into an event to take away from the Obama nomination. It's a dirty trick.

But it's not "our side" doing it. It's local law enforcement and if you have ever been been to the Front Range cities of Colorado(save Boulder and Ned) you will know that they are mostly right-wingers inhabiting those areas.

29. No, my friend, you are wrong. I live in Denver and that's how I know.
Denver is solidly Democratic, the vast majority is blue, not red.

It is our side, because Denver is controlled by Democrats. Our governor is also a Democrat. Our Representative in the House, Diana DeGette is also a Democrat.

For a very long time there has been a fascist mind set with the denver p.d.

I hope CopWatch is well-prepared! They are the ones to volunteer with, if you have big concerns.

They deserve huge thanks for all their efforts!

:applause: for CopWatch!
