Fox sponsored Democratic presidential debate in Nevada has been cancelled
Dear activists, colleagues and friends,

We have a terrific victory to enjoy today. The Fox News sponsored Democratic presidential debate in Nevada has been cancelled. Activists all over the country came together -- from the netroots to grassroots to MoveOn to bloggers to the film we at Brave New Films created -- in a stunning and powerful rejection of the myth that Fox is a news station.

For those of you who have helped spread the word by spreading our Fox Atacks: Obama video far and wide. Thanks for amazing work. If you missed it, check it out here:

We want to continue the work of calling attention to the distortions, lies and propaganda that is Fox News. Please help support our continuing efforts:

1. Donate to Fox Attacks.
2. Watch Fox News and identify local advertisers.
3. Subscribe to the News Hounds weekly newsletter. They watch Fox so you don't have to!
Enjoy this important step in making very clear we will not accept propaganda as news any more.

Robert Greenwald
and the Brave New Films team

Fox is Not News

A passionate and intense collaboration between the netroots, and media activists, and MoveOn, and the video we created at Brave New Films, has led to the wise decision by the Nevada Democratic Party to cancel the Fox-sponsored debate.

Faux is nothing but the propaganda arm of the Repugs. Not only should they be discredited as any sort of news organization, but why would the Dems want to trust them with a debate? Remember how they identified Foley and other criminals as Dems, and the Obama/Osama mixup? Who knows what damage they might do with "typos", "technical glitches", and other "mistakes"? Nor do we need their unfair and unbalanced commentary, rumors, lies, and drivel.

Good on ya!

This is what we've been waiting for: Acknowledgment from mainstream Democrats that Fox is nothing more than the propaganda arm of the Neocon Death Machine.

IMHO, the person who gets the biggest  is John Edwards. He was the first major candidate who had the guts to say no. He showed enormous leadership and made a big, bold mark in standing up to Fox and its Flying Monkey Right masters.

It's a great day to be a Democrat. :D

Edwards: Fox "Corporate moutpiece of Republicans" "We'll deal with Fox News on OUR TERMS"
Posted by Proud2BAmurkin on Fri Mar-09-07 08:26 PM

http://blog.johnedwards.com/story/2007/3/9/20352/75748

Now it's time for Democrats to stand together and send a clear message to Roger Ailes, Fox News and all the rest of them: bias isn't balance, but turning tables is fair.

The truth is, Fox News can "report" whatever they want. And when it works for us, we'll deal with them on our terms. But this campaign is about responsibility and accountability, and we need to send the message to Fox that if they want to be the corporate mouthpiece of the Republican Party more than they want to be an impartial news outlet, they shouldn't expect Democrats to play along.

The Delegitimizing Of Fox News Is The Biggest Story Of The Year
Posted by ruggerson on Fri Mar-09-07 10:49 PM

John Edwards and the Nevada Democratic Party have started in motion a process that may completely delegitimize Fox as a "news" outlet.

We have all known for years that Fox is nothing more than a propoganda arm of the Republican National Committee. The problem has been that Democrats have lent them credibility, and let them feign neutrality, by appearing on their shows and dealing with them as if they really were a responsible, non partisan, mainstream journalistic network.

If what John Edwards has started becomes a hurricane: if Democrats actually begin to stand their ground, and only deal with legitimate news services, the results will be catastrophic not only for Fox, but for Matt Drudge, Rush Limbaugh and the entire rightwing echo chamber. If Fox "News" is deprived of the ability to lay claim to any journalistic credibility, the far rightwing loses its most effective electronic font of propoganda.

And Roger Ailes is running very scared by these developments. It is his worst nightmare. That people finally begin to stand up and say, "You are not a news organization, sir. You are merely destructive, hyper-partisan propoganda."

Ailes today, in full damage control:

"Recently pressure groups are forcing candidates to conclude that the best strategy for journalists is divide and conquer, to only appear on those networks and venues that give them favorable coverage.

There's a long tradition of news organizations, national and local, sometimes together, sponsoring presidential and other candidate debates. The organizations and the panelists have been the objects of a lot of advice and even pressure as to how these debates should be conducted and what questions should be asked. This pressure has been successfully resisted, but it's being tried again this year with the added wrinkle that candidates are being asked to boycott debates because certain groups wants to approve the sponsoring organizations.

This pressure must be resisted as it has been in the past. Any candidate for high office of either party who believes he can blacklist any news organization is making a terrible mistake about journalists. And any candidate of either party who cannot answer direct, simple, even tough questions from any journalist runs a real risk of losing the voters.

The public knows if a journalist's question is unfair. They also know if a candidate is impeding freedom of speech and free press. If you are afraid of journalists, how will you face the real dangers in the world?"

Richardson Bows out of Fox News Debate in Nevada and Update
Posted by benny05 on Fri Mar-09-07 04:21 PM

Breaking on Kos:

"Bill Richardson just called to say that he will not be doing the Fox News debate in Nevada.

Richardson had been the sole Democrat to confirm his appearance at the debate, which is on life support at this point.

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/3/9/164244/3404

Excellent. While Richardson is not my first choice candidate, I applaud him for joining John Edwards not to participate in the Faux debate.

Another breaking item: Nevada Dem Party Drops Debate

From the Politico:

"The Nevada State Democratic Party is pulling out of a controversial presidential debate scheduled for Aug. 14 in Reno and co-hosted by Fox News, according to Democratic insiders.

The debate was being hosted by Fox News Channel and Fox News Radio, the Nevada State Democratic Party and the Western Majority Project.

A Fox spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a call for comment.

Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards said Wednesday he would not participate in the debate, citing Fox's conservative ties as a factor. His deputy campaign manager, Jonathan Prince, sent an e-mail to the liberal website DailyKos, which was posted on the site."

58. Actually , just posted an article that says the debate was canceled due to
a joke fox news channel's chairman Roger Ailes made about Barack Obama on Thursday night. Fox contends that the joke was aimed at bush but it played on the fact that Obama's name is similar to Osama's.

"It's true that Barack Obama is on the move," Ailes said during the speech. "I don't know if it's true that President Bush called Musharraf and said 'Why can't we catch this guy?"'

Also from the article. "Nevada State Democratic Party Chairman Tom Collins and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Ailes "went too far" with comments made the night before." and also "We cannot, as good Democrats, put our party in a position to defend such comments,"
