My Obama yard sign didn't last 6 hours
I'm 26 years old and have put a yard sign in my yard for the last 2 elections. I have never had a problem. I live in a very racial hotbed area in Saginaw. The whites live in the suburbs, blacks in the city. I'm white and I was even called the N-word by a neighbor who thought I was breaking into his car a few weeks ago (I was just walking late at night, staying fit).

Well, I paid my $20 after shipping to the campaign for a yard sign. There are McCain signs everywhere in my neighborhood, so I thought it was time.

It didn't even last a few hours. It was shredded, missing poles and bent on the side of the road. I had a bet with my brother how long it would last, I won.

2. Get another one. People have all kinds of things they do to try to keep their signs from being
vandalized which wont cause them to be liable to any jackass who tries to destroy your sign.

Don't let the bastards win. :)

the type that fold onto a metal frame can be rigged to dispense a foul smelling liquid if tilted. Use your imagination.

You can also get a game camera with an infrared sensor that will take their picture if the perps come in range.

46. Yup
They could try going down to an art supply store and getting some heavy slow drying permanent ink (the kind that comes in a tube) to rub on the back side of the sign. Then after it disappears just look around the neighborhood for the guy with ink stains on his car or front door.

44. Another idea
Spray the sign with pepper oil, That stuff is wicked hot and when they think they got their jollies ripping out the sign well. Then they like touch the eye and it will burn for ages and even when holding the pecker when aiming to take a piss.

Don't know what else you can do cept make a pile of dogshit around the sign and watch them step and slide on it.

If you can find it...

Paint the sign with it and see how the ditto-head does with getting poison ivy exposure from the sign.

Should work...

Good luck!

I think someone already beat me to it, but either replace the sign with many more signs, or, replace it with a single large sign. It may be an eye sore but it gets your message across. The point is that you cannot let 'them' win.

If you're going to order another sign ok - use that or, go and print out your own sign. UPS Stores, Kinkos or any printing shop could do it for you (download the .pdf file and put on cd and take it to them) with your new sign or your sign on cd. Have them make you a bunch of copies of that sign, it won't cost you much either, do as many as you think you'll need.

Now you have a bunch of signs ready to go. Wrap in saran wrap or that laminate stuff you can get at Office Max or Staples, seal with tape (laminate is self sealing), have a few poles ready and you're good.

Man, forget them stupid ignorant people. It's a free world ffs.

Go straight for the habanero pepper juice. Though the oil would also make it slippery.

How about Tiger Balm? It's greasy AND it burns like a muthafucka (especially if you ain't used to it)

election. What the hell is wrong with people?!

But I did read a funny story, during the last election, took place in Denver, where my cousin lives, so sent it to her. This guy and his wife were running around trashing Democratic yard signs. He managed to knock himself out in some guy's yard, got tangled in a clothesline, and the guy called the cops, so they were both arrested, with a van full of other people's yard signs...:D

There are no Obama or McSame signs anywhere, I guess everybody will either stay home or secretly vote for Obama. There were signs everywhere in 2004.

Sigh.

Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose.

No one will ever fuck with your signs ever again.

After I lost 3 Kerry signs over the span of four nights in 2004, this is what I had to resort to. Mind you, I lived in a rural area, where one could do something like this. Your milage may vary.

I stayed up late to see what would happen to sign number 4... at about 3:30 A.M. some local yahoo rolls up in his pickup truck, cuts the lights, creeps up to my new sign, and... BOOM!!!

I like to think that he shit himself. In any case, my sign stayed up for another two months, all the way into November.

The stuff is worse than pine sap. The sign stealer will get it on their hands, their clothes, their car.... It's almost impossible to get off hands, the clothes are ruined, and they'll be spending hours w/ GooGone trying to get it off their car or front door.

Tanglefoot is also cheap, non-toxic and invisible. You can find it at nurseries and garden supply stores.

63. thanx for both replies.
the stuff I was talking about makes a bird stick to where it lands, the bird dies and the others see it. A gaudawful way of repelling things if you ask me.

Sounds like a great thing to put on a sign, along with some habenero juice.

66. Sorry that happened. I have sign in my window
and if you go that way it doesn't even have to be a yard sign...just a big sign. That's the real reason the sign is in my window, I got the cheaper sign. And a shirt.

Of course if your neighborhood is that bad I hope they don't break the window to get at it.

A spotlight and a ferocious guard dog could help protect a yard sign but might be too far to go.
I didn't know Saginaw was a racial hotbed. I am sick of racial hotbeds and ire. I've heard rumors that we are quite similar under our skin and that we are all humans.

If we need to feel superior and hate some group can't it be mosquitoes or something?

71. My van has been keyed twice since we put on the sticker. I got similar
treatment when I had a Kerry bumper sticker so I hope it's not racially motivated?

I always have a back up yard sign. I went through three Wellstone signs when we supported him in 02, and more than one Kerry sign.

I'm sorry that your sign has been vandalized. The best justice is to get an eight foot sign and grease the posts with a black auto grease. That's what my husband did. I worked great! :hi:

73. I'd be careful what you do .....because these are really stupid people . . .
and in my town, they ran a truck up onto someone's lawn -- really roughing up the lawn ---

knocked over and smashed the sign ---

74. This is fear in the Repug ranks.
That's what makes them violent.

They are SO afraid of Obama.

75. This happened to me several times in 2004.

Had a handful of Kerry signs ripped off from my yard. And this year I am waiting for someone to vandalize my car because it has an Obama sticker. It will happen, guaranteed.

I have to wonder how far some would go to deny basic freedom of speech and association, if not plain old simple difference of opinion. But then again, I don't want to know.

I hope you did report it as vandalism. It was your property, it was on your property. And it's important to notify the law, especially if other signs seem to suffer the same fate as yours.

ON EDIT: I've heard that putting grease or oil on the poles works. Anything sticky or messy that can't been readily detected in the dead of night.

77. Get a "decorative" rock
about the size of a clothes dryer. Put it in the middle of your lawn. Paint your Obama sign right on it with a good exterior paint..

You can do that by tracing out the sign on a transparancy sheet and projecting it on the rock using a projector. Just trace the lines as they are projected on the rock, then paint.

Let'em try to move that one!
