The Racist Roots of many planks in the Conservative Movement
Edited on Wed Aug-13-08 07:42 PM by ck4829
You might be surprised, you might not. Either way, I hope it makes for some interesting reading.

So, I've decided to take a good and long look at the conservative movement and see how many things associated with them are associated with racist ideologies and groups, and this is what I found out.

"Barack HUSSEIN!!!! Obama" - This is obvious xenophobia and bigotry, it does not get any more cut and dried than that. Most of us know Muslims, some of you reading this may be a Muslim, and we all know that this attack is nothing more than "fear of the foreign sounding guy."

Christian Right - Publicly, this fanatic faction of the Conservative Movement and Republican Party was formed in response to Roe V. Wade. However in private, conversations with right wing leaders such as Paul Weyrich have suggested that the formation of the Christian Right was actually quite sinister. According to Weyrich, the wheels for the Christian Right were set in motion when tax exemption was denied for Bob Jones University because of their policy banning anyone who has been in, or even supports, interracial relationships. One should also consider Jerry Falwell's comments supporting segregation, as well as Pat Robertson's comments in support of the Apartheid Regime.

Liberal Media - Many decades ago, ultra-conservatives railed that the "Jewish Media" was biased against them, now it's the "Liberal Media" that's biased against them. Does anyone really think that's a coincidence?

Political Correctness - "Politically correct/incorrect" is the death rattle of overt racism. Really now, what exactly is "politically incorrect" about using the n-word or blaming minorities for everything under the sun?

War on Christmas - Do you know the truth about the "War on Christmas" that is proclaimed annually by right leaders and pundits such as Bill O'Reilly? It may very well have roots in Anti-Semitism. An Anti-Semitic tirade, "The International Jew", declared that Jews launched a war on Christmas. It has stuck, and far righters have declared that "someone" has been launching a war on Christmas every year since.

"Welfare Queen" - A staple of welfare reform, without it, welfare "reform" would not be justified. This was also very often by the Reagan Administration in order to crack down on "welfare fraud." Supposedly in this country, we have legions of welfare queens; poor black women having more and more babies in order to get wealthy from welfare. Think about it for a second though, isn't it 'coincidental' that it plays into the crypto-racist's fantasy of poor black women being promiscuous?

So, next time someone talks about Reagan Administration guys letting contras flood crack into the cities and Republicans engaging in campaigns to stop black people from voting; it might not just be a conspiracy theory.

1. You can dig even deeper..

...into the roots of many semi-legit organizations that have folded into the Republican party and find links to racist and fascist groups. There was a book I looked at about 10 years ago that traced this kind of thing. Some of it may seem a bit removed now - going back to the 50s and 60s, but no doubt about it.

2. "welfare fraud"

There is a lot of welfare fraud in this country. Talk to a social worker and they will tell you. That doesn't mean a safety net isn't needed, but don't kid yourself into thinking that there aren't plenty of people who run scams on the system and abuse it.

3. Most of the cases I've read about or seen
and those I've seen were primarily in the NY Metro area, were poorly supervised public employees who had learned how to game the system from the inside. Any fraud committed by the poor fool on the street paled in comparison to the cost of those who worked from the inside.

My anecdotal experience in both business and government says that the closer you are to the top of the food chain, the more you can steal without being caught or prosecuted. If 10% of what was stolen by those on the top went to help the "least of us", people wouldn't even notice their pocket being picked.
