Mukasey confirms it --It's No Crime If Obama should hire just Dems in the DOJ and fire all Repugs

I would take Mukasey at his word and issue pink slips for every Repub hired by the DOJ since Clinton left office, and I would post help wanted ads by the DOJ that specifically spell out that any connection whatsoever to the Republican Party or its positions will disqualify any potential applicant.

Wonder how the Bush Boys would like that? Play by their rules for a change!!

Catch-22.

8. In this case it would reestablish the status quo rather than leave criminals in office...
... because you are afraid it will 'destroy the country.'

There has to be a remedy to the wrongs committed rather than to say ok we leave all these unqualified partisan people in place and go back to hiring for openings as they occur on a non-partisan basis.

IF the rule is that no one gets prosecuted and removed from office, then the remedy is to follow the rule and remove them when Obama takes office.

10. I'd say you could review their interviews and hiring process on a case-by-case basis
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 01:16 PM by Richardo
and if they were an improper hire, let them go or transfer them.

But a wholesale mass firing of Republicans and replacement with Dems would be no better than what Gonzalez and Ashcroft did.

12. Are you kidding? Repubs are masters at rewriting history and alternate realities...
Those interview notes and would read like a primer for non-partisan selection, and those hired would be documented as the 'best of the best' even though both are light years from the truth.

I would rather the Obama Administration 'turn the clock back' to before Bush took office, and then implement non-partisan hiring as it was supposed to be.

13. Well, when Bush took office there were a mix of Republicans and Democrats in career positions.
Clinton obeyed the law, after all...

17. There might have been some hired legally
They couldn't screen EVERYONE by political affiliation because not everyone indicated an affiliation. And, some Democrats were hired.

I'd be in favor of reviewing every Republican hired when a Democrat who indicated his or her affiliation was rejected.

18. Fire 'em and let them reapply... there will be some openings soon!
You can bet your bottom dollar that every single position filled was screened for political affiliation.

The problem with the hiring program they ran is you know only that 'repub affiliation' was a requirement, which violated the law and civil service laws.

6. The repugs are swimming in moral relativism these days.
"not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime."

In what goddamn world does he live in? I'd just love for some liberal defense attorney to use this defense. Hey not every violation of the law is a crime. What a concept!

9. Like how he tiptoes around the real issue.
It's SOP for a President to fire the incumbent DOJ people & hire his own for the duration.

That's not the issue.

The issue is that AFTER the Bush Regime did that, they found to their horror that some of the people they hired ACTUALLY WANTED TO DO THEIR JOB WELL AND FOLLOW THE LAW.

THAT'S why they were fired - not because they weren't Republicans, but because they were honest & professional Republicans.

21. Thanks, I was going to point that out.
The problem was in punishing those hired because they followed the law.

23. Well said, and as some in Bush Administration may soon find out
their actions may be criminal violations, because it's against federal law to consider political affiliations in hiring decisions. May be difficult to prove, but there are quite a few ex Bush administation individuals sweating bullets these days.

11. You know, all the legislative tools are there to basically do whatever we want.
We could spy on the Republicans-from that we would should never lose a campaign again, we could spy on businesses and get favorable deals and build our own media empires. Yes, I'm starting to like this power thing, I'm starting to like it very much.

Republicans never imagine that they could be the ones harassed and intimidated and marginalized by any means needed, legal or not. They always imagine themselves as the ones doing the intimidation and harassing and marginalizing.

14. You don't speak politician. He didn't say it wasn't a crime, he just said that he wasn't going to do
anything about Republicans breaking that law while he was head of the DOJ. Big difference.

As long as it is just Dems getting the shaft, they are fine with it.

Understand?

22. Or, just maintain the tradition of getting resignations from all federal
attorneys - as is done whenever there is a change of administration - and accepting the resignations of any who have any hint of incompetence or wrong-doing. That will automatically take out 95% of the Bush appointees.
