Man waving machete confronts KC police searching for bank robbers

Kansas City police shot a man with bean-bag rounds this morning after he allegedly threatened them with a machete.

The man was taken to a hospital to be checked out, but his injuries were not serious, police said.

The incident occurred about 8 a.m. during a massive area canvass for a 2006 homicide investigation in the area near Blue Valley Park. Police and federal agents began knocking on doors today in search of information in the unsolved killing of a bank guard.

Officers knocked on a door in the 2800 block of Oakley Avenue and didn’t get a response, police said. They later saw a man outside the same home, so they returned. Police Capt. Rich Lockhart gave this account:
