more baloney from John Edwards.
John Edwards claimed in his nightline interview that his affair with Hunter took place in a short period of time in 2006 and ended in that year. He claimed that he told Elizabeth in 2006. If it ended in 2006, it must have ended either on December 30th or 31st.

And no, it's not the sex, it's the banal and self-serving lies. And the stupid insistence on doing a public mea culpa on TV and lying is what's going to keep the press digging for inconsistencies. That's why this story ain't going away any time soon.

Edwards Took Mistress on 2006 Presidential Announcement Tour
By Garance Franke-Ruta
Well, you gotta give him one thing: the man has chutzpah.

Photographs distributed by wire services and posted online by technology blogger Robert Scoble show that former North Carolina senator John Edwards took his mistress Rielle Hunter with him on the plane during his late 2006 presidential campaign announcement tour. As can be seen in this Dec. 28, 2006 photo (that's Hunter in the jeans and jester hat, as can be seen more clearly in this side-profile photo), Hunter stood off to the side of the national press corps filming Edwards as the former Democratic vice presidential nominee announced his second bid for the presidency in New Orleans.

Here she is drinking from a cup as Edwards is interviewed by the press. More photos of her at Edwards's presidential campaign kickoff can be found here and here, where she's shown laughing with Edwards's young staffers.

Writes Scoble on his Flickr site under a photo of Hunter he uploaded Dec. 30, 2006, "I was hanging out with John Edwards and crew as he announced he was running for President of the United States. This photo was taken in New Orleans as Edwards gave press interviews on the lawn of a house that was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina."

4. sorry, the MSM isn't going to drop this, and it has zilch to do with what's
posted or not posted on some blog. The MSM didn't touch this for a year. He actually got a big fat pass until he did his interview on Nightline.

It's that interview that's red meat for the corporate media.

2. My question is why did he visit this woman and her baby in CA two weeks ago?
The reason he finally came clean is that he was caught leaving the place. If it's over and he's not the daddy there is really no reason for him to see her. At least that's my feeling.

56. I don't agree
especially if the baby daddy is also a former campaign worker as well. :Gasp!: I've visited former lovers and their wives babies but I'm not the mother of their children nor had I slept with them during the appropriate time frame. Matter of fact, I'm still friends with a great many of my exes and I know first hand that it's possible to become nonsexual friends to former sexual partners. And I live in the Midwest where were all supposed to be a bunch of fly-over rubes, is it possible that Midwesterners are more sophisticated about former sex partners or are we just more friendly? Visiting someone doesn't establish paternity. Let's be grown ups. DNA may prove me wrong here but the evidence for paternity thus far is circumstantial.

3. that woman is creepy.
A family member gave me a Newsweek subscription last year. Wouldn't have been my first choice, but they meant well. Anyway, the article in there about Hunter is a doozy - Fatal Attraction stuff. I bet she got pregnant on purpose.

44. The article is here:

http://www.newsweek.com/id/151783

...I stayed in touch with Rielle for months. At lunch at the Soho House in late spring of '07, Rielle told me that she and novelist Jay McInerney were working on a "genius" idea for a television show about women who help men get out of failing marriages by having affairs with them. She said they wanted to pitch this idea to Darren Star, creator of "Melrose Place" and "Sex and the City." At lunch early that summer, I asked Rielle if she was dating anyone. She answered simply, "I'm in love." I asked, "Who with?" "I can't tell you," she said, "but maybe someday we'll all be friends."

I'm not commenting any more out of respect for Elizabeth Edwards.

Edited to remove commentary. *ehem

7. I have faith in his wife. Him, not so much. I would think that if he told her in 2006, he would have
never made a run this time for President. He announced his run on December 28, 2006. It has me rethinking why he dropped out before Super Tuesday. It puzzled me back then but I'm thinking perhaps it was closer to THAT time it came out in his marriage.

10. Somehow Edward's baloney pales in comparison to
Arnold Schwarzeneggers baloney, not only in the sexual peccadilloes department, but in what harm he is doing the State's employees in his capacity as the Governor of California. So why can't we talk about this instead of Edwards, who is no longer in public life and not able to make decisions that ruin the lives of the people who work for him.

I think you have hit upon the key to these sorts of issues
Coming clean early takes the wind out of the medias feeding frenzy. IMO, if Nixon had fessed up early about Watergate, instead stonewalling the issue, he would have completed his second term as President. I also believe that if President Clinton had held a news conference shortly after Monica hit the press, admitted he got a BJ from her, the whole issue would have died in a week. The media likes to keep the pots boiling with these types of events,
They will keep stirring that pot as long they think they can get a story. If there is no longer a story, they drop it like a hot rock and attack somewhere else. Again, my opinion.

20. I thought this was about sex.
There is the matter of statutory rape committed by Arnold and covered up. You know they got one of those tabloids to get Gigi, the girl in question, to give them an exclusive on her under age relationship with Arnold and subsequent trysts with him after he was married to Maria. It turns out the tabloid won't run the story because Arnold and his publicists were behind the pay off all along. Gigi signed a contract that she can't spill the beans to any other news outlet.
