Hornary (n.) a politically fatal Hart Attack (warning: this is in PRAISE of Edwards)
Read quickly, you baker's dozen or so who don't have me on righteous "ignore" for criticizing the Messiah.

There would be no health care plank in the Democratic Party platform this year if it wasn't for John Edwards. The term "predatory lending" would be unheard. Had he been listened to, nuclear energy would be a dead issue, instead of yet another one that Obama will accomodate, along with further restrictions on abortion rights, increased faith-based funding past even what the reactionaries propose, expansion of crimes warranting the death penalty, restriction of workers' rights to sue their employers, refusal to cap credit card interest at 30%, unconditional support for AIPAC, expansion of the STUPID war in Afghanistan, offshore drilling, FISA snooping and who knows what else.

The media, the reactionaries and other partisans did their damnest to destroy this dangerous man, and in the end, he helped them out. If his recounting is true, it was a brief affair two years ago when his wife was in remission and he told her at the time.

Watching people dance on his grave and repeat the snide dismissals of his political record is just another depressing mudfest in a political year filled with hero-worship and self-justified deception. We don't know all the facts about this brief affair, yet we use what we know to villify him to the worst possible interpretation. It's a year of selfish, cocksure skewing of facts and evocation of "rights" to deride certain candidates and support others. Reality will come out, as it has in this instance, and I dread the ultimate outcome.

We deserve the government we get, and we're not going to like the outcome; I hope you all can accept responsibility for it instead of copping to the traditional leftist handwringing of having been betrayed.

Like Hart, this man, with all his great talents, his mind and true heart will be largely wasted. That's nothing to cause rejoicing.

To many of you, I'm just a crank who doesn't like Obama, but to the long time habitues who mostly sit in dismayed silence these days you'll remember me as one of John Edwards' first and most vocal supporters. There are others, and they deserve some toleration in an hour of disappointment. I expect and request none; I'll live by the sword and take my licks.

May others treat you better than you choose to treat them when your heroes fail.

2. Clinton did Monica. Bush fucked America.
I would promote fertility ceremonies in the Oval Office with virgins lines up around the block if it would prevent another 8 years like these.

Sex isn't our enemy, America. But our hypocrisy may kill us. We turn a blind eye to torture but get bent over adultery?

BushCo has been raping America for 8 years and we still refuse to hear the screams.

3. Thank you, as another stauch Edwards supporter, I appaud you.
I , too , was onr of John's first and most vocal supporters" and remain so. I still believe in everything he stood for and I still believe in John and Elizabeth. Unlike some, I do not believe that one "mistake " negates a lifetime. Thank God there are others who feel the same.

7. Most of us are fans of Edwards' policies, rather than the man himself
He was the most effective advocate for the poor and middle class in this presidential race. It's too bad the mistakes of his private life will now be used to discredit those policies.

9. Whereas it's the opposite for many Obama supporters, isn't it?

Let's just hope that the honeymoon holds until November.

14. John Edwards will make a great Supreme Court Justice
... after he serves as Obama's Attorney General for a while.

Plus, as my wife points out, "Yeah, he screwed up. Pretty badly. But so did the Big Dog, and we chicks still dig the both of them."

16. I'd like to be proven wrong.
Much as I've been a major critic here, I've still sat on my fingers on many, many occasions; he's the only game in town.

What an extremely depressing campaign: my liberalism is fed by a concern for my fellow beings, but they've shown themselves to be a dreadful lot of late.

Man, and I thought the Clinton folk had difficulty getting over it.

15. "But... But... McCAIN CHEATED TOO!"
I'm just not counting on the press to make the comparison: John and Elizabeth kept their family together, like the Clintons. McCain dumped last year's model, just like Newt and Reagan.

12. I will not ever condemn a man because he falls down. It's how he gets up that countsl
Edwards is a good man and he obviously loves his family very much, as they love him. It is too easy to condemn others when our sins are not publicized for the world to see. He is a brave man and a good man, but not a perfect man. None of us is perfect.

God bless their family as they go through this strife. He made them strong and loving and they will get through.
