Pilots: United Airlines' Maintenance is Slipping

United Pilots Fault Maintenance Woes on Economic Decisions

In a letter Wednesday to the acting head of the Federal Aviation Administration, the chief of United Airlines' pilot union said four recent engine failures or compressor stalls on United 737 aircraft may signal that "maintenance standards have deteriorated at United as operational decisions are increasingly driven by economic considerations."

Capt. Steve Wallach, chairman of the Air Line Pilots Association branch at United, said all the emergencies, which occurred shortly after takeoff, were resolved without incident or injury when the pilots returned to the airports.

Also 20+ years old as well....they are tired birds....UAL has plans to retire them soon.....but yes economics drive many choices.
