The local TV station did a segment on my arrest for photographing Miami Police
It ran last night at 6 p.m. Today, they posted an article about it on their website. I wish they had posted the actual video, but this is still good.

1. I'm glad you're getting some press and glad to see the cops' actions
are under review. Thanks for keeping us posted!

2. if found not guilty, what can you reasonably expect to happen to the cops?
Are they going to get a nice vacation with a *suspension with pay* charge? That's usually how cops in Atlanta get reprimanded.

3. I don't see how they could accuse you of standing in the middle of the street.
Having lived in Miami most of my life, I am very familar with Biscayne Blvd. and the area where you were. Now, Biscayne Blvd. is a very busy street, so how could you have been in the middle of the road without being run over?

9. I had never heard of boing boing until the story made it on there
It generated so many hits on www.category305.com that it crashed the server, forcing the site go off-line for about 24 hours.

8. You may want to be even more careful from here on out.
I'm really sorry to hear you are dealing with all of this, but it occurs to me that if those cops are in any kind of real hot water over this, you may have a whole bunch of Miami cops looking to bust your chops now.

I'm not saying all cops are bad. I'm not saying that any cops are bad. I'm only saying that IF there are bad cops you could well be on a sh*t list with the bad ones in Miami.

Keep safe--ok?

Laura

10. Well, I always leave the house armed
with at least two fully loaded cameras.

14. I'm gonna sound all "Mom" like here:
Those cameras won't do you a BIT of good if you are laying dead someplace. Hell--those cameras could vanish quite easily (There's a lot of ocean and swamp around those parts, not to mention drains and trash cans...)

Something my Mom used to say to me, was "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure." I used to think it was really a stupid thing to say until I realized she was urging me to AVOID getting in trouble by playing it safe.

That is all I'm saying here, play it safe for a little while--OK? I kinda like you and I enjoy seeing you on here-I don't want anything bad happening to you just because you stood up for right.

"Momish" lecture officially over.

15. I'm a stubborn son
In fact, I've been out on Biscayne Blvd since my arrest. I've even photographed two of the officers who arrested me. This time, however, I waited until they turned their backs.

This is Officer Reid and Officer Kurver. I will be seeing them in court. The story is down below.

They came to me. If WSVN came to me, I would gladly talk to them.

13. A parallel case from Tacoma WA, without the beating and bust, is on Youtube.
Before the video begins he had been told to move from one side of the street by one cop, then a second cop drove up with the results as shown: The videographer gives more of the details of the incident in the comments section.
