Had they gotten to hold it now instead of 1936.

2. well considering we're watching a brutal dictatorship try to whitewash it's past
so I think it's relevent since the Nazis got their olympics at the height of their power.

4. Actually, I read something about Riefenstahl's camera work...
...she did the thing with the camera following divers as they jumped off the board and dove into the water.

Her cameras even went under the water.

And she even had cameras race along side sprinters as they ran, too.

So, I guess for me, the Nazis would do some amazing propaganda work, which people will ignore for nearly 60 years and reintroduce pretending that a former actress didn't come up with the idea.

9. Because they are soldiers?
9,000 of the 15,000 involved are conscripts on loan from the PLA.

8. Lots and lots of dancing water sculptures
IIRC, Germany invented pressurized water fountains during the Third Reich along with magnetic tape and methadone. But they'd probably contrast the dancing waters with a bonfire in which they burn all sorts of dissident political, philosophical, and religious works - including any surviving works of the author in my sigline.

11. China did a really good job
Some of the people trained for 10 months just to do their task, during the opening.

They did a good job, because even I forgot about Tibet and the torture and the human right violations for a few minutes, while i watched it.

Maybe I've become brainwashed too. :(

"Oh, China has some bad shit in its recent history!"

Guess what? So do we. You want to compare the last two hundred years, us v. them? Yeah, didn't think so.
