"We love to cut you down to size, we love dirty laundry"
Dirty little secrets..dirty little lies...we got our fingers in everybody's pies... love to cut you down to size..we love dirty laundry...

That's the song playing in my head right now folks...

The story has broken that John Edwards had an affair today and CNN (and I presume other cable networks also) has turned their channel into the all John all the time network.

John Edwards had an affair. So WHAT? WHY is that MY business?

If John Edwards the CANDIDATE talking about issues that actually afffect voters like poverty, energy, jobs, and healthcare was SO uninteresting to the media that they pulled the plug on him and froze him out of all media coverage in January of this year then WHY is the PERSONAL life of John Edwards the PRIVATE CITIZEN so important that he is getting more coverage now than he did for the whole month of January?

It's obviously because sex sells and the media loves to distract the voters with lurid gossip so that we won't pay attention to the REAL scandals going on in our county - for instance:

a) A war based on a coordinated conspiracy in the Oval Office to lie to Congress and the American people.
b) Torture, kidnapping, and dentention without trial being conducted by our American "democracy".
c) Illegal wiretaps without any warrants in clear violation of the law.
d) A Congress which is too chicken to do anything about these things and is in fact complicit in much of it.
e) Corporate Lobbyists running make that OWNING our energy, health care, economic, defense, and foreign relations policies.

So today is "take out the trash" day for John Edwards and I think it's time for a chorus of "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley to salute our sleazy slimy corporate hack media that has placed Edwards' story far above those of a shooting war between Russia and Georgia, dramatic stock market and oil price news, and the start of the China Olympics that also occurred today.

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
Its interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down

Kick em when theyre up
Kick em when theyre down
Kick em when theyre stiff
Kick em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybodys pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When its said and done we havent told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!

Lyrics by Don Henley, Dirty Laundry, from "I Can't Stand Still", 1982

3. They're not on Edwards because sex sells.
If that were so, why did they do so little with the McCain/lobbyist story? Or Giuliani, for that matter?

They're on Edwards because he's a Democrat, and he gave them an opening.

It's not about sensationalism; it's about tarnishing liberals.

You think they'd be doing this if they found out about a Fred Thompson affair?

5. It is MY business
I sent him a lot of money, which I may not have had he admitted to the affair before he declared his run.

I and million others supported him wished that he were our nominee. Had our wish been granted, we now would resign to a McCain presidency.

7. I really don't think that McCain wants anyone to open the marital infidelity can of worms...
Witness his "no comment" today on the issue...

McCain has skeletons in the closet too. His current wife is #2...

9. Yes, being like Europe would be nice. Until then, however
a candidate who parades his family on the campaign - and McCain does not do this, most were not even aware that he had a son stationed in Iraq - while cheating on a cancer victim is not honest. Shows poor judgment: these things eventually are found.

And, really, we don't need to be the party of cheating husbands who run for office.

Excellent album!!!

:hi:

eta:

Walkin like a millionaire
Smilin like a king
He leaned his shopping cart against the wall
He said, I been a lot of places
And I seen a lot of things
But, sonny, I seen one thing that beats em all
I was flyin back from lubbock
I saw jesus on the plane
...or maybe it was elvis
You know, they kinda look the same
Hey, look out, junior, youre steppin on my bed
I said, I dont see nothin
He just glared at me and said,

If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
I wouldnt worry anymore

Lookin like a beauty queen
Loyal as a wife
She raised her little voice and testified,
I am a good girl
Ive been one all my life
But her virtue was as swollen as her pride
She shouldve had the oscar
She must have been miscast
Her fifteen minutes went by so fast
I said, now, baby, have you got no shame?
She just looked at me, uncomprehendingly
Like cows at a passing train

If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
I wouldnt worry anymore

We got the bully pulpit
And the poisoned pen
We got a press no better
Than the public men
This brave new world
Gone bad again
Gods finest little creatures
Looking brave and strong
Whistling past the graveyard
Nothing can go wrong
Quoting from the scriptures
With patriotic tears
We got the same old men
With the same old fears
Standing at attention
Wrapped in stars and stripes
They hear the phantom drummers
And the nonexistent pipes
These days the buck stops nowhere
No one takes the blame
But evil is still evil
In anybodys name

If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
Wed all be in the black
