REAL BACKGROUND on the Georgian war, courtesy of MSNBC video...

What does this attack mean?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp=26094998#26094998

Great interview with Richard Holbrooke, why hasn't the US called for an emergency session of the UN? Where is NATO? Why is Bush attending the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, sitting next to Putin, and not sitting in a private room trying to deescalate this fight?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp=26094998#26092138

This is VERY serious, reports by the hour indicate the conflict is spreading into greater Georgia.

8. Russia
Interesting timing on Russia´s part. Toward the end of GWB´s failed presidency, US mired in Iraq and Afghanistan, US political capital overseas spent, US deep in recession/bust. This invasion of Georgia is really a horrible thing, but you have to admit the Russians are great chess players.

16. Georgia determined the timing
Georgia moved first. They deliberately timed this for a period when leaders would be away from their capitols.

18. BBC is better than the US MSM
The US MSM is useless. People need to take advantage of the Internet with its ability to get news from sites around the world.

Everybody has their own bias, but with a wider sample of news outlets you can factor out opinions, and look for verifiable facts to get some idea of reality.

(still might)on that very subject. Rice was supposed to have this big brain about Russia yet she/we didn't see this coming and did nothing stem the tide of war. George Bush is just an idiot but Condoleezza Rice is a grossly incompetent fraud.

15. Do you really want Bush to get involved in this? Really?
In case you been living underground for the last 8 years, let me fill you in:

Bush fucks up EVERYTHING he touches; he's like reverse Midas. I guarantee you if he gets involved with this he will only make matters worse, no matter how bad they are right now!!!

Let's let the other countries of the world (the ones with adults as leaders) handle this one without us. I'm sure most of them know a hell of a lot more about what is going on than captain dipshit, and will come up with a some sort of action.

Really, I think we just need to withdraw from the world scene until cokespoon is gone and all (work for/pray) that Obama wins, so we can have somebody competent enough to handle these sorts of situations.

20. Holbrooke Says U.S. Must get involved....
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 07:57 PM by lib2DaBone
U.N AmbASSador Richard Holbroke says the U.S. "must get involved" and "Take the lead" in this conflict. He says that Russia started the conflict. Q: How does he know this.. why didn't MSNBC follow up? (sorry, dumb question) First off, why does the U.S. HAVE to get involved in yet another bloodbath thousands of miles from our shores? And second, a cursory research of news articles shows that Georgia was the invader.... not Ossetia? Someone is lying here.... it can't be both ways?
