Americans, more than ever, now have to make choices in their lifestyle due to the high cost of gasoline. With the rise in price of petroleum products, we also have had a tremendous increase in the cost of food. With all of this going on, you might ask, where is our Congress? What are they doing? The answer is that they are off vacationing and enjoying the good life. Nancy Pelosi, the extreme left wing liberal speaker of the House from San Francisco, Calif., told the American taxpayers that she doesn’t have time for them or their problems. Ms. Pelosi turned out the lights, ordered the microphones and the television cameras turned off and went on a five-week vacation.

Never mind the fact that a lot of Americans won’t be able to go on vacation due to the high cost of gasoline. Never mind the fact that truckers are going broke due to the high cost of fuel. Never mind the fact that employers are laying off employees due to the high cost of energy. Never mind the fact that Americans are trying to balance their budgets between eating, paying their mortgages, paying for electricity and buying gasoline. Nancy Pelosi, Democratic speaker of the House of Representatives, closed the doors and with her actions and said, “Let them eat cake.” Do you remember the last time in history that those words were uttered? It’s time for the American people to rise up and throw this Democratic-led, do nothing Congress out of power.

I suppose the answer we’ll get from Barack Obama, will be to “Just air up your tires and stay home.” If he’s elected, maybe he’ll send you a nice certificate for a free air gauge.

2. First: If Nancy Pelosi represents the most liberal of the left wing
liberals, please kick me with a donkey until I believe it. Second: There is no up or down vote? Its BS.. Instead, why did the Republicans block a legislative initiative to end speculation on oil in the Senate? Ask the republicans why they are blocking real legislation that could decrease the cost of oil by a large margin.

8. Never mind the fact that Republicans have been raping this
country for the last 7 years, giving back hard earned tax money to people that didn't need it, not taxing big oil, passing bad drug bills, unjust wars, I used to say that these were failed Republican policies, but they worked just the way the Republicans wanted them to, and this is the result.

9. OK...what do you think...before I publish it?
I’ve read-with sad amusement-recent comments about our “do-nothing Democrat-led Congress”The fact is,according to the decidedly conservative Marketwatch, that the responsibility for the lack of Congressional action lies squarely in the lap of the obstructionist Republican minority. To refresh your memory, the House requires a 2/3 majority to pass a bill and the Senate requires 60 votes. So,while the Democrats may have a simple majority, there will be no action without the cooperation of Republicans(just as it was when the Republicans were in the majority).
Here are the FACTS:
the Republican strategy forced a record number of cloture votes -- 94 so far -- that require a super-majority of sixty votes to end filibusters. This was reinforced by more than 119 veto threats by President Bush, essentially repealing majority rule.
If Republicans had not adopted this strategy, majorities in both the House and the Senate favored passage of the following:
--WAR IN IRAQ: Setting a date certain to bring the occupation of Iraq to an end, freeing up the $12 billion a month in direct costs (almost a half-billion dollars a day) for vital needs here at home, and insuring that soldiers are guaranteed adequate rest and recovery between deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

ENERGY: Investing billions in renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, creating green-collar jobs, and paying for it by repealing subsidies for oil companies already pocketing the greatest profits in recorded history.

HEALTH CARE: Providing health care for millions of children of working and poor families, giving them with a chance for a healthy start to life, and saving seniors tens of billions of dollars in prescription drug prices by empowering Medicare to negotiate bulk purchase discounts.

We need to have an open dialogue on the actions of our representatives in Congress.Empty insults based on erroneous data help no one,and just add to the hard feelings Americans have for each other…this at a time when we need to be united. Please research your Congressional record.

11. kay
well how about

please explain how drilling now and here would bring the price o gas down? are you deliberately misleading people or do you just not know the facts? It would take ten years before any drilling started today would produce oil. That oil would then be put on the world market, and sold at market prices. It is not being set aside as American oil. Furthermore, we already have tons of land set aside for drilling, land which is sitting there with no drilling being done on it.

please explain how drilling here and now will reduce the price of gas at the pump. That is a deliberately misleading statement.

Do you have a problem with doing what we all know we need to do, that is start renewable energy programs? Because that is the part the Democrats wanted to add to the drilling bill. What could be wrong with that? Why were you people holding up the vote by saying no to renewable energy? The Republican party does not care about our shores, our environment, or our gas prices. Shame on you for misleading the American people about your agenda to line your pockets.

14. and i would add to that:
any oil they do get won't be "ours" it will be "theirs" meaning the oil companies' and they'll sell it to whoever will pay the most, whether it be china, india, or the US.

it's a lose/lose proposition.
