2. I hope to God she breaks with this tradition

She seems to be a woman of great personal dignity. To me those stand-by-your-man political wives are basically in it for themselves...

8. Would it not be nice to see her begin the interview sitting next
to John and then as it gets rolling and do the equivalent of what John Wayne did in McLintock ("now boss don't lose your temper" don't worry I have not lost my temper in 20 years, but pilgrim you could have gotten a lot people hurt here this morning and some ought to belt you right in the mouth. But I won't do it, I wont' do it, The Hell I won't and of course the Dukes pops him one right in the mouth).

In Elisabeth's case she should give John a solid round house ringing slap to his face and then walk saying my attorney will be in touch.

4. I heard one wife who went through this --
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 02:52 PM by gateley
(I forget who it was, but her husband turned out to be gay.)

Anyway, she said that she was just reeling and in shock/numb when the story broke, and was kind of on auto-pilot when she had to appear at the press conference. Plus, she was still loving him as she had before - hadn't had time to let it all sink in. (She later divorced him.)

Plus, some wives have a different perspective, which is their right. Not saying this is true about Elizabeth, but look at Hillary. She appears to have made a decision long ago to stay with Bill regardless of the straying. Edit -- And Jackie Kennedy.

So although we're outraged about what he's done to Elizabeth, we don't know the whole story. She may already be aware and have come to her own decision already. Maybe not. We'll see.

15. Apparently in the ABC interview he says that she was aware.
But maybe she thought he wasn't going to see her again.

16. The stories imply that she knew about the past affair, not about him sneaking to the hotel recently

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say in my post.
When someone is caught in an affair, usually one of the agreements is that that person will never see "the other" again.

21. Yes --
learning and coming to grips with it is one thing. But learning that he saw her recently, if she wasn't aware of that, will be a doubly hard blow.

5. If
If they've had a heart to heart, if John has admitted his errors, promised to make amends, apologized sincerely, and Elizabeth has accepted that, then it's none of our business. But I can guarantee you she won't sit by "quietly" wearing pearls and holding his hand, if she's there.

6. Why is John Edwards doing a TV interview at all about this?
I'd prefer if he just issued a press release and didn't appear on TV until after the election.

14. I think he thinks he will be able to sway people over to being sympathetic to
him. Poor husband with sick wife, what was he to do??

I imagine he (and Eliz. too) would like to salvage something of his reputation to build a career on at a later date. Remember even Nixon had a "re-birth."

7. I hope she divorces the pig.
I'm tired of men in power thinking they can screw anything that moves and get away with it. Not only was it piggish behavior on his part, he put us all at risk. What if he had been chosen as a VP pick? Screw these guys. No sympathy.
