Chandler calls for troop pullout from Iraq
http://www.kentucky.com
LEXINGTON, KY. -- U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler is calling for troop withdrawals from Iraq starting right away. But he says any policy change is unlikely until a new president takes office.
The central Kentucky Democrat says a troop surge has improved conditions in Iraq, and says the Iraqi government should stand on its own.

Chandler made the comments to the Lexington Herald-Leader after his first trip through Iraq over the weekend. He says he's increasingly concerned with the mounting cost of the U.S. occupation and reconstruction of Iraq.

Chandler says the U.S. needs to leave the Iraqis with as stable a situation as possible, but says it's time to start withdrawing troops.

**** Yes he is related to Happy Chandler (Grandson), former governor and Baseball Comish that made it possible for Jackie Robinson to play in the big leagues.

3. I was fairly certain of that; my cousin is a Dem running for the state Legislature
up there and she has good things to say about him.

6. Less than an hour from Nashville, unless they are working on the road.
They always are.

7. pretty much, depending on the road you take anywhere from an hour to an
hour and 1/2 for her.
She is a bit further north in the county.

9. That patch of road is scary. I used to ride it a lot when my wife
lived in Nashville. I'd drive from Lexington to Nashville for the weekend. I can go the rest of my life without seeing I 65 and I'd feel no loss.

10. oh we don't have to get on I 65 to get to Nashville. There are 3 different ways to get
there from our patch of the woods. In fact we are far enough west of I 65 to make it out of the way.

I 24 is much better for us. 79 to Clarksville, and 24 straight into Nashville.

In the old days we took some pretty snakey little back roads featuring bridges that hadn't been redone since horse and buggy days.

11. I know back roads. I used to be a rural route carrier and amateur cyclist.

14. It's the best job in the Post Office, at least it was. You had a lot of
freedom the carriers and clerks didn't have. It was also the hardest and the most dangerous, but the freedom made up for it.

15. well, he got a Christmas Bonus on his route: every mailbox on his route had
some wonderful home made goody in it everyday from the Mennonite farmers. Homemade sausages, cheese, bread, sweet rolls, butter, etc.

I walked into my mom's kitchen the first year he drove that route and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was like a big church potluck.

Nice countryside, except in winter

16. Yes, the home made goodies were a perk of the job. When I became a
city carrier, I carried a route starting in the richest section of town, and ended in the poorest. The poor were more generous with gifts and and during our annual food drive.

In the summer there were BBQ's and fish fries. Be still my heart.
