Sickening. "Nasty Attack Ad Hits Jewish Dem Congressman For Visiting "Our Churches"
Nasty Attack Ad Hits Jewish Dem Congressman For Visiting "Our Churches"
By Eric Kleefeld - August 6, 2008, 2:45PM

This brutal new attack ad from House candidate Nikki Tinker, who is challenging liberal Tennessee Rep. Steven Cohen in tomorrow's Democratic primary, just might be the nastiest, most race-baiting (and Jew-baiting) ad of the entire cycle:

"While he's in our churches, clapping his hands and tapping his feet ... he's the only senator who thought our kids shouldn't be allowed to pray in school," the announcer says, referring to an old vote against school prayer from when Cohen was a state senator. And remember, this is coming from a Democrat.

Cohen is the only white Congressman from a majority-minority district in the South, and was elected largely because of the divided field of black candidates in the 2006 primary, which included Tinker herself. Tinker never really stopped running against him, and has picked up the support of EMILY's List and a few members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Furthermore, Cohen is a Jew -- which makes the "our churches" line all the more suspicious. Tinker's campaign has not yet returned our call for comment on what message the ad is supposed to communicate.

6. Yes.
Here you go:

I'd also like to note that this isn't the first low blow Tinker has struck at Cohen- and that Emily's List has endorsed her.

10. Doesn't Emily's List exist solely for the endorsement of women?
Have they ever endorsed a man?

12. Yes. They exist to support pro-choice women candidates
but they could have just not endorsed her. She's a really ugly piece of work. She ran the same kind of nasty campaign in 2006. She's also no progressive. She's a union busting lawyer for an airline. And she actually ran an ad trying to associate Cohen with the KKK. Emily's List should withdraw their endorsement. And frankly, Obama should have denounced her tactics. Cohen was an early supporter and great defender of Obama.

This stinks.

7. Nobody's preventing anyone's kids from praying in school!
Not only is it thinly-veiled antisemitism, it's just a plain old lie.

People (people in general that is, not DUers) are so frigging ignorant when it comes to school prayer. Being against school prayer just means not forcing someone else's kids to pray like I do, or vice versa.

I have to explain this to acquaintances constantly -- they've got no clue. And then I have to add "Okay, so let's say we DO have school prayer. Is saying the lord's prayer after the pledge of allegiance every morning really going to curb gang violence, stop kids from taking drugs, or raise test scores?"

9. So very correct. When I was in 3rd grade the commie fighting
McCarthy died. My teacher who was a Catholic told us to set quietly and say a prayer for him. Well, my parents blew a gasket when they heard about it. First of all my family did not support his witch hunt and said I should have given thanks. Secondly, our church does not believe in praying for the dead. So this teacher violated my right to freedom of religion and forced me to take sides against my parents. Prayer in school is fine as long as it is individual prayer but when an adult is allowed to force children to pray then it is a violation of our civil rights. This law would also lead to teachers being chosen on the basis of their religion.

11. My letter to this Tinker character
"What a vile bigoted sack of filth you are. It's even more disgusting that a person of color would resort to such tactics.

Not to mention the fact that you support prayer in schools which is also a form of bigotry. Revolting. I hope you lose in a very big way.

If you win I will happily donate to your opponent in the next cycle.

You should be ashamed of yourself." :puke:

13. The "our" probably refers to Black churches as opposed to white
churches. It is a nasty ad, but not anti-semitic.
