A Minnesota congresswoman says the United States is the only country that has made it illegal to access its own energy.

House Republicans are continuing their revolt against Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her decision to adjourn the House without a vote on offshore oil drilling to lower gas prices. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich plans to join House Republicans in the Capitol this morning to join the protest.

Representative Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota) says it has not escaped Democrats what the cost of gasoline and loss of jobs are doing to the country.

"This is their agenda," Bachmann states bluntly. "I know it is hard to believe, it's hard to fathom -- but this is 'mission accomplished' for them," she asserts. "They want Americans to take transit and move to the inner cities. They want Americans to move to the urban core, live in tenements, (and) take light rail to their government jobs. That's their vision for America."

Bachmann predicts gasoline will rise above $5 a gallon if Barack Obama is elected president.

17. We live in the city too

We had one of my wife's friends come visit us from another city as she passed through from point A to point B. She lives in the suburbs of her city and by her own admission never goes into her own city's urban areas.

She was literally afraid and couldn't wait to get back on the highway. We were kind of insulted by it. We live in the city but it's a nice clean neighborhood where people take good care of their homes. They're just packed densely together. We even have lots of trees, deer and wild turkeys here and there (and occasionally a peacock that escapes from the zoo nearby).

And you CAN be a farmer and live in the city. There's one near here that's smack in the city.

Take the oil away from the oil companies!
It is under American land and boundary waters.

Dedicate it to farmers, feedstocks, and rail.
Nationalize railroad and exchange track usage credits to the current rail lines. Let railroads use the rail like trucks currently use the highway.

And yeah, residence density has to go up, America must re-urbanize.
Not because Democrats want it, but because the alternative looks a lot like KunstlerLand.

The Republicans want America to be a land of starving, ill people who will become part of generation kill... or die, and make way for those who will.

cheap oil is a thing of the past. It's not a sustainable lifestyle anymore. I don't think any sane rational Democratic person posting here proposes forcibly moving people out of the country though.

My shop where I make my living is in my suburban basement, it keeps my business overhead down to the point I can actually make a profit as a self employed single individual.

If I lived in an urban situation, that would not be possible for me to do, I'd have to go to work for someone else or rent commercial space that would take the great majority of my gross income.
