Update: Mother of baby boy killed by black lab pup charged with neglect.
http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=20080804_1__Ayear88381

A 17-year-old mother whose 2-month-old son was mauled to death by a family pet is accused in a police affidavit of child neglect.

Police allege that Linzy Earles has a history of drug abuse and was neglectful when her baby, Zane Earles, was “eaten alive” by a black Labrador puppy at the home of his mother and grandparents, Stan and Holly Earles, in the 2900 block of East 102nd Street on July 28.

The affidavit indicates that Linzy Earles was “taken off juvenile probation on June 2nd for drug charges.”

Police have obtained a search warrant to retrieve blood and hair samples from her to determine whether “she was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics during the time that her baby was left unattended and eaten alive,” according to the affidavit

1. What a sad sad story
So young and her child is now dead and her life will forever be destroyed. Addiction does indeed destroy lives.

4. Maybe she is, but her parents home, where she, dad, and baby were living, is in one of the
up-scale communities of Tulsa. How many houses do you know of that have bedrooms 85 feet away from the main living areas? Big house.

5. I think you would be wrong
Even upper-middle class parents can have daughters who become drug addicts and teen parents.

In a rational world the teenager would not have custody over that child until she was clean and clear-headed. I blame the grandparents for not having enough sense to not leave the child in the care of their teenager whom they KNOW is neglectful and has a drug problem.

3. Our justice system regularly cracks down on the weakest members of society...
...while our fucking congress is to fucking chickenshit to impeach the criminals in the whitehouse.

6.  The 17 yr old lived with her parents and the father of the child.
The father and grandfather left and according to earlier reports, the grandfather was the one who put the infant in the baby swing. The mother and grandmother were asleep on the opposite side of the house.

I'm still not sure what to think. Yes, ultimately the responsibility belongs to the Mom, but there were other adults in the home and it was another adult who put the child in harms way and left.

10. If you read the affidavit
The child was in the care of her mother, who went back to bed, leaving the child unattended.

13. Well, I should be locked up as well then.
I can't tell you the times I put a Midlet in a swing and collapsed out of sheer exhaustion.

This is very unfair. It's a tragic accident and that's all. Her loss of her baby is punishment enough. The poor thing had to be hospitalized for God's sake.

Edit:

Apparently now they're saying that the Mom was the one who left him in the swing.

*sigh*

Those whole situation is just heartbreaking all the way around.

9. I knew they were meth heads...
called it in the original thread... ( yeah, they don't say meth but just watch the video )

Also, for the folks that were screaming about them killing the puppy afterwards-

"The Labrador was taken to the Tulsa Animal Shelter, where it was euthanized at the request of police so that evidence could be recovered from it, Officer Leland Ashley said last week."

15. A lession for us all, don't leave a baby in a room with an animal with teeth.

Unless psychological denial kicks in, I'm sure she will be stricken with grief and horror everyday as she thinks about her baby being eaten to death. I don't know if I could live with myself if it were me.
