2. Did you follow the link?
According to the http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7544834.stm">BBC:
Mauritania is one of the world's poorest nations as well as its newest oil producer.
Another excuse to raise gas prices.

3. A failing government, largely due to soaring food prices.

We all live on the same planet and are connected.

Food riots and coups ripple.

5. American Myopia In Action
Wanna bet you get 100 Americans and give them a map and none could find the general area this country is located.

There's been an on-going food crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa, but unless Sally Struthers cries about it, no one cares.

12. Some people like to pretend relevance where one exists. It is just one of many African basket cases
Edited on Wed Aug-06-08 01:13 PM by greyhound1966
caused by French colonialism that has been ruled by military kleptocracy since it's designation. It is largely uninhabitable and produces little food, yet they have a birth rate 3 times their death rate. It was taken by the military in 1980 and has "enjoyed" a civil government for just over a year and the only reason this got any coverage at all is... wait for it... oil.

What Europe (mostly) has done to Africa is a horrible crime, but since the first world has granted itself immunity there is little hope anything will change there in our lifetimes.

Your sanctimony and crocodile tears for this country you probably never heard of until you ran across this article is simply pathetic when your only real concern is that the price of gas may go up a few cents a gallon.

14. I mentioned the oil, because it seemed no one cared.
But, thank you for your presumptuousness.

And if you're done with it, allow others to engage in this conversation.

For we are all citizens of the world.

Now the Paris Hilton/Lindsey Lohan shit or Amy Winehouse's antics? Yeah...I could give a lesser flying f***.
