American Idol Announces Event to Raise Money for African, US Poor

I was surprised to see this on the show tonight (I am forced to watch it).

At two shows in April, AI will raise corporate sponsor money and also invite viewers to contribute money to help in the fight against poverty in Africa and in the US. The judges will travel to different parts of the country to highlight the poor and the need. The host and one judge already travelled to Africa for the same reason.

I gotta say, this is pretty good - a huge audience - bound to raise large sums of money. Lots of younger viewers who will have the opportunity to see how fortunate many are, and how challenging life is for others who are less fortunate.

3. Glad to hear it.
When people here *SEE* poverty, and life for people living in poverty, people will give generously because we all want to help. The problem is that most people don't see it, because they're watching American Idol (for example). This was a good idea and I'm happy to hear about it. The issue of poverty needs exposure, desperately.

6. I am not sure I understand your comment.
I appreciate mixed or negative feelings about the show - but I don't understand what you mean about laughing at the weakest among us.

I do think this effort will do some good, raise some money - so I was promoting the effort as opposed to the show.

7. Evidently you didn't see them laughing at the autistic boy
Very cruelly.

Faux is not based on any humane basis.

8. A Win-Win Situation !
- if people are going to watch and vote, it's a grand idea to make the vote help others both here and in Africa. I'm a big A.I fan and think that this is a great way to participate in A.I. and make a difference at the same time!

9. I will be voting like a FOOL those nights! The sponsors of AI will be donating to
the charities per phone call/vote on those 2 nights! EVERYONE here should pick up their phones and spend 2 hours voting (it's toll free)!

BONO will be on! That man is such a mensch.:loveya: A TRUE Humanitarian.

12. It's a local FAUX station...not FAUX NEWS channel and this will help KATRINA VICTIMS!
And children in Africa who have no home, no mom, no dad, and no food! You should have seen the children. They were so damn cute. Randy and Paula will be going to NOLA, LA. and MS. and help the people there. BONO is involved with this! BONO. If HE is involved, it's a GOOD thing. Just pretend the show is on ABC or NBC.:( It's worth the sacrifice to tune into a FAUX station.

13. I just hope it doesn't lead to Bono lowering himself by appearing on A.I.
