Shit flows downhill and Cheney is the toxic volcanic peak. Without him, less than half the shit that has happened in the last 8 years would have happened.

6. One thoroughly evil guy who never makes these lists is David Addington.

He's Cheney's counsel, and all this time he's been helping Cheney do his evil shit by offering "legal" justifications for it. He's one bad dude. He's an absolute zealot, a total ideologue; the Torquemada of the 21st century. He belongs in the dock with the rest of them.

7. I honestly can't decide. What strikes

me about the list is that each one is utterly despicable in his or her own way. I mean it is like looking at a list from a Medieval text on demonology and finding out that there is a demon who specializes in one type of minor evil ( like causing people to loose their fingers while slicing herring, which lead them to curse, bleed to death and go to hell) and another that specializes in another ( like causing people to fart at funerals which . . .hell). I mean Cheney - granted, he is major evil. But look at the sheer sleazy equivocation of John Yoo on torture. Monica Goodling - the arrogant self-righteousness that only an education at Regents University can confer.

And what of all those that are missing? I almost went with Darth, but then had to ask "Where is KKKarl Rove." If I go with Gonzalez, what of Ashcroft? Can't we award them kind of an ensemble award for evil?

doesn't get nearly enough play. He's a hard-core neo-con sociopath (and convicted Iran-Contra felon) who's still pulling major weight on US Middle East policy. I wish I could find an online version of his Iran-Contra testimony. His cold-blooded rationalizations for murderous activity are still lodged in my brain even today. He's quite rancid indeed.
