United Airlines just launched the biggest sale we've seen from them in quite some time, with fares from Dallas starting at $62 each way, including:

* Dallas-St. Louis… $62
* Dallas-Denver … $94
* Dallas-Chicago … $103
* Dallas-Baltimore … $116
* Dallas-Los Angeles … $121
* Dallas-Mexico City … $222
* Dallas-Beijing … $436

These fares are available Aug. 18 through Nov. 20 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Saturdays. United has also discounted flights to Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico and South America. Use these tips to find these fares:

* Book 14 days in advance
* Fares require a 3 night, Saturday, or Sunday night minimum stay
* Book quickly, as the lowest fares are already selling out
* Be flexible with your travel dates
* When searching on United's site, first click on "More Search Options," then "Search by Flexible Dates." Prices will be listed roundtrip including taxes.

You must book by Friday, Aug. 8.

I am still on the seniority list at US Airways (on LTD), and believe me our prospects are probably worse than your dad's airline. Anyway, one needs to whistle as we walk through this graveyard we find ourselves in. Gallows humor, as it were.
