American Cancer Society raffle redux
I also posted this in the Cancer Support forum, but I figured GD will get more traffic.

Specifically, breast cancer research at the American Cancer Society. The prize is a pink camo Dura-coated Stag Arms AR-15, the pictures are not the final finish, it is still being worked on, but it is pretty representative of what the pattern will look like. Tickets are $5 a piece, and all proceeds are going to the American Cancer Society. All state, federal, and local laws apply, so if you live in a gun-unfriendly state like California then they plan on selling it for you and sending you a check instead. Or you could put it up for auction online, adding even more to the charitable contribution. If there are any questions on how you would go about receiving it, I can probably answer most of them and if not, FBMG would be more than happy to answer, as would the guns subforum in DU.

Original pics were too large, and hotlinked, so I will omit them. They can be found at the first link

2. Why a pink-camo AR-15?
Yes, I get the color pink connection, but why a pink-camo AR-15? Why not raffle the Hello Kitty AR-15?

3. Well it is something different
And that one piece stock is an aesthetic crime! Looks really uncomfortable as well. And if you will notice, the breast cancer AR has one of the pink ribbons on the left side of the magwell, maybe one on the right as well.
'

Plus the Hello Kitty AR already has an owner, while this one is a new project specifically for cancer research.

10. That one was a political protest.

Notice the California-legal handgrip and California-legal muzzle brake. The owner was thumbing his nose at the California legislature for freaking out over Scary Black Rifles with handgrips that stick out, by painting his small-caliber carbine Friendly Pink and putting Hello Kitty and flowers on it.

No one in the other 49 states would want the idiotic California-mandated grip.

11. That lighter-pink webbing between the stock and the grip makes it California-legal?
How do you shoot the gun with that in there?

Jeeeesus Christ.... :banghead:

And I thought this was a funky-looking idea!

12. Yeah, it makes it a "regular" stock
It looks ridiculous, and awkward, and maybe a little uncomfortable as well.

Silly legislators, they don't even know what laws they pass do they?

13. Yup. Seriously.
Or, you can put a Monte Carlo style stock on it:

and it's once again just a small-caliber, non-automatic civilian rifle, instead of an eeee-villll baby-killing "assault weapon."

The Brady Campaign wants to take that law nationwide, BTW...

14. The monte carlo stock looks like hell
and it looks like it would make the rifle really uncomfortable to get a good cheek weld with.

4. I almost forgot!
If you don't like guns much, then winning this raffle will allow you to do your part in keeping weapons from spreading, you can hold onto this one and make absolutely sure it doesn't get into the wrong hands!

6. Or if you win it, you can do what should be done and melt it down.

7. why on earth would you want to do that?
It is a .223 target rifle, that happens to wear a very nice DuraCoating job that expresses support for the future curing of cancer in general, and breast cancer specifically. Only a total asshole would want to destroy an item that raised who knows how much money to be put towards cancer research.

I have heard some bad things about the American Cancer Society since I posted this, but I can't substantiate anything and either way the rifle is being raffled for a very good cause.

15. Because the fewer arms there are, the less potential for violence.
Go and read the recent book on the AK-47 and the legacy of violence that it has engendered in Africa and the Middle East (can't find a link but I'm looking - I'll post it when I find it).

The ACS could surely find something else to auction that would generate just as much money without being a symbol for much that is wrong with the world today.
