16. That's right. They submitted deficit budgets every time.
The scam under the GOP is: reduce taxes, thereby driving the budget into the red, then let the weight of debt service on the deficit crowd out spending on social programs.

26. Bingo
Reduce taxes, send every penny of tax dollar money in to defense (enriching their friends), barrow more money to spend on defense/wars (enriching their friends: oil, banks, defense contractors), starve the social programs.

48. Goes even deeper than that, too...
the debt is financed by the selling of T-bonds, which the rich can actually afford to buy. The interest on these T-bond comes from tax money we pay. Vicious circle, it is (unless you are them)

63. If I remember correctly, of the 12 Reagan/Bush years, they
actually submitted a balanced budget one whole time. Of course it would have been by slashing social programs, and may have been the year that Reagan pushed through taxing unemployment and increased the SS taxes. He was so great for working people...

I'll have to see if I can find anything on this, because either way (12 of 12 or 11 of 12) is horrible for such fiscal conservatives. Especially during the time that Gramm and Rudman were beating the Concord Coalition drums.

15. Clinton was just enjoying the prosperity left by Reagan/Bush policies....
"After all it takes (ummm let's see.. doing the math, counting on fingers) SEVEN years for economic policies to take effect. Every economist will tell you that." How many times have you heard that line from a 'con? It's also a very convenient explanation for how Clinton didn't really leave a surplus. It just took 7 years for the economy to crash due to Clinton's policies. It wasn't George's fault at all, see?

Will any republican bother to look up the GAO reports and see for themselves that the facts shown in the cartoon are indeed facts?

Nope!

So very much eaasier to deny reality & those pesky facts, and believe that somehow the world (who do know the real facts) can be made to stop believing the facts and believe the rightwingnut fantasy.

35. Sadly, the cartoon grossly underestimates the damage done by
each of these guys. Deficits are only yearly figures. Since Bush II took office, the deficit has gone from $5.7 trillion to $9.6 trillion, a whopping 68% increase in only 7.5 years. Reagan and Bush I have similar records of greatly increasing the national debt.

So now it's official. Bush has not only destroyed the Constitution and trashed our national reputation, he's bankrupted the US Treasury.

didn't you know? The Reagan and Bush I economic problems were due to Carter's failed policies! And the Bush II economic problems were due to Clinton's failed policies! And the Clinton economic successes were due to the Reagan and Bush I economic policies finally bearing fruit!

At least that's how the conservative morAns like to spin it.

And anyhow, aren't we trying to shrink the federal government to the size where it can be drowned in the bathtub? The Republican administrations of the past 28 years have done their part!

So just remember - when Obama's administration produces a surplus, it will be due to Bush II's brilliant economic policies finally paying off!
