"Comedian" Dennis Miller on Ann Coulter, John Edwards & what Edwards "did" to Cheney's daughter
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 10:05 PM by Bluebear
Words fail...

...O'REILLY: Ann Coulter calling Edwards the "F" word. Your thoughts?

MILLER: Well, listen. I think Ann is making a lot of money. And I think she's morphed more from a Phyllis Schlafly thing over to a Vince McMahon from Worldwide Wrestling.

O'REILLY: Smack down.

MILLER: I think she understands that, you know, she's Pavlov's dog. She gets the corn kernel if she hits that drum once in a while.

But the thing is I'm no Edwards fan. I think he is the emptiest of suits. What he did with Cheney vis-a-vis his lesbian daughter in those debates I thought was one of the most vapid political gestures I've ever seen.

So I don't like Edwards, but I think Ann should have split the difference and called him a maggot. This way you get five sixths of the word and you get none of the headaches.

O'REILLY: Do you think she does it for business reasons?

MILLER: I do. I think she's very savvy. Listen, I think she splits the difference, too. I'm a professional joke writer. She says that was all a joke, leading back to "Gray's Anatomy". OK, after she broke it down for me and did the postmortem I could follow the joke. But at the beginning you just hear somebody drop that word.

O'REILLY: It's not really a joke though. I mean, it's a calculated attempt to get attention I think.

MILLER: Well, it works.

and I thought Dennis Miller was supposed to have a sharp wit. Whatever.

Still not funny

12. Lizz Winstead:
"Now in the name of disclosure, I also call myself a "satirist."

The difference between Ann and me is that I have never had
to explain my jokes. People either think my jokes are good,
or they think my jokes suck, but they recognize they are jokes.
I don't make a scathing joke about the right and then when I
get raked over the coals by the right for making it, come up
with some lame excuse about how the right can't take a joke.

They got the joke and they hate me for it.

Fair enough.

BUT THEY GOT THAT IT WAS A JOKE!

But when Coulter makes a "Joke" about 9/11 widows or
Muslims or Fags, and gets s**t
for it, she cloaks herself in this satire thing.

Ask any "Satirist", or stand-up or comedy writer to finish
this sentence for you; If you have to explain the Joke...."

You are just an empty suit and a tired act too.

Head on out to L.A. and work your "hustle" on sun set strip
for the men who cruise the streets looking for action. At least
you would be doing some "real work." But you are too old so
you would wind up @ truck stop working for $5.00 and a happy meal.

27. My recollection
is that Edwards complimented Cheney on how he had supported his daughter or something to that effect and Cheney thanked him for it during the debate. Then Kerry mentioned Cheney's daughter in a later debate and was labeled "not a nice man" by Lynn and there was much hand-wringing in the press and scorn from the right.

22. He's right about Coulter
.....and her motives. MONEY. All political humorists have to say something a little more outrageous than the last time or the other guy to get the bill paying attention. Her line about liberalism being a mental disorder only got headlines and speech invitations for so long and she had to come up with something more over the top. Don't believe it? Compare Franken today versus just five years ago. They're all there for the money, the more the other side howls the more money they make. This time though I think she screwed up enough to cost her money instead. Tough!

O'Reilly dons the mantle of morality capo di tutto capi to excoriate the "SP"s, but when a filthy-mouthed maven of a right wing apologist says what would cause him to have a conniption fit if said by an "SP", its OK because its just "business". O'Reilly's not even trying to be consistant with his propaganda.

29. Who Cares About Mary Cheney
I don't understand why people were so outraged by what Kerry said, and what Edwards said too.

I don't think they were the most politically clever things to say, but give me a break! Tempest in a tea pot.

I do agree w/Miller on one point - if you have to explain a joke...
(as John Kerry found out several months ago)

30. Edwards said nothing but very nice things about Mary Cheney and the Cheney family
I'm no big Edwards fan but the guy simply said polite and praiseful things about Mary Cheney and her family. Is that "doing" something to her on a par with what Coulter said? Maybe Miller wanted Edwards to prostrate himself in front of Dick Cheney at the debate and kiss his feet and considered anything less to be a slander on a par with what Coulter said. Is Dennis Miller on acid? Or has he been taking memory improvement lessons from Scooter Libby?

Here's a portion of the transcript, in which Cheney thanks Edwards at the end for his kind words:

IFILL: Senator Edwards, 90 seconds.

EDWARDS: . . . Now, as to this question, let me say first that I think the vice president and his wife love their daughter. I think they love her very much. And you can't have anything but respect for the fact that they're willing to talk about the fact that they have a gay daughter, the fact that they embrace her. It's a wonderful thing. And there are millions of parents like that who love their children, who want their children to be happy. And I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and so does John Kerry.

I also believe that there should be partnership benefits for gay and lesbian couples in long-term, committed relationships.
But we should not use the Constitution to divide this country.
No state for the last 200 years has ever had to recognize another state's marriage. This is using the Constitution as a political tool, and it's wrong.

IFILL: New question, but same subject.
As the vice president mentioned, John Kerry comes from the state of Massachusetts, which has taken as big a step as any state in the union to legalize gay marriage. Yet both you and Senator Kerry say you oppose it.
Are you trying to have it both ways?

EDWARDS: No. I think we've both said the same thing all along.
We both believe that -- and this goes onto the end of what I just talked about -- we both believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.
But we also believe that gay and lesbians and gay and lesbian couples, those who have been in long-term relationships, deserve to be treated respectfully, they deserve to have benefits.

For example, a gay couple now has a very difficult time, one, visiting the other when they're in the hospital, or, for example, if, heaven forbid, one of them were to pass away, they have trouble even arranging the funeral.

I mean, those are not the kind of things that John Kerry and I believe in. I suspect the vice president himself does not believe in that.
But we don't -- we do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

And I want to go back, if I can, to the question you just asked, which is this constitutional amendment. I want to make sure people understand that the president is proposing a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage that is completely unnecessary.

Under the law of this country for the last 200 years, no state has been required to recognize another state's marriage.
Let me just be simple about this. My state of North Carolina would not be required to recognize a marriage from Massachusetts, which you just asked about.

There is absolutely no purpose in the law and in reality for this amendment. It's nothing but a political tool. And it's being used in an effort to divide this country on an issue that we should not be dividing America on. We ought to be talking about issues like health care and jobs and what's happening in Iraq, not using an issue to divide this country in a way that's solely for political purposes. It's wrong.

IFILL: Mr. Vice President, you have 90 seconds.

CHENEY: Well, Gwen, let me simply thank the senator for the kind words he said about my family and our daughter. I appreciate that very much.

"MILLER: I think she understands that, you know, she's Pavlov's dog. She gets the corn kernel if she hits that drum once in a while."

Pavlov's DOG does NOT get a Kernel of CORN, nor does it Salivate over one.

A CHICKEN getsa kernel of CORN, when it hits a drum..

Can't tell the difference between a DOG and a CHICKEN? Does not bode well for someone who communicates through humor....

I just hope that he remembers that a GEEK such as himself Bites the HEAD OFF A CHICKEN, and Not a DOG.. well, maybe it WOULD be fun to watch his bite the head off a Doberman :)
