"THE LEAKER IN CHIEF" (Newsweek) Bush Declassified Info & Authorized Cheney To "GET IT OUT"

The Leaker in Chief?
Is he a CEO who stays above the fray? Or did he give the go-ahead to strike back at critics over prewar intel? A presidential mystery.
By By Michael Isikoff and Evan Thomas | NEWSWEEK
From the magazine issue dated Apr 17, 2006

George W. Bush likes to be seen as a man who dwells above the pettiness of political warfare. He has said he doesn't read the newspapers and shrugs off media criticism as carping of the chattering classes. Especially since 9/11, he has said that he looks to a higher power for guidance. He once threatened to stop sharing information with Capitol Hill if lawmakers didn't put a stop to leaking. "There are too many leaks of classified information," he told reporters in September 2003, "and if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is."

.......................

A lawyer familiar with the investigation, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, told NEWSWEEK that the "president declassified the information and authorized and directed the vice president to get it out." But Bush "didn't get into how it would be done. He was not involved in selecting Scooter Libby or Judy Miller." Bush made the decision to put out the NIE material in late June, when the press was beginning to raise questions about the WMD but before Wilson published his op-ed piece.

5. The past 7+ years....
Edited on Mon Aug-04-08 09:02 PM by MsLeopard
...have all been nothing but a criminal enterprise to loot and pillage the US Treasury. These Mafia thugs recognized the huge pile of taxpayer money, constantly replenished - not to mention the $9 trillion of debt they ran up on our good name - and devised a plan to legally, and not so legally, steal it. And they've done it all in a calculating and devious manner, behind the scenes maniputating the hell out of us through their control of the media, mostly managed by the horrorific mind of KKKarl Rove. We are so screwn.

Edit-can't spell

7. bush is smirking around knowing that's he's screwed the country
and the world, despite being the least deserving of the office. He's pissed on the values that we all hold dear, on the Constitution, and on all morals. And he knows he still has about 20% of the country still supporting him, and the richest willing to break more American values to lie and cheat on his behalf.

10. *LOL* HE believes himself to be "ABOVE" the "the chattering classes"?

No wonder the power-mongers chose him to sponsor them. He's so stupid and naive and insecure. What better pResident to achieve the interests of the few?
What better loving idiot to offer the masses?
When George actually reaches "adulthood", he may become an advocate for something other than the thoughtless shit he's pursued. I know I'm dreaming.

23. A lot. Joseph Wilson contacted the Bush Administration
numerous times after the 2002 State of the Union Address, demanding retraction of the yellow cake reference. He warned them that if they did not retract, he would talk to the press. This all occurred pre-declassification.

12. Why is the media so full of self-loathing hypocrites?
They know Bush's tendencies and proclivities as well as we do. They see Commander Bunnypants up close and personal every day. They know that far from being "above" media criticism (what little there is of it), Bush is a very meticulous accountant of every slight, every doubt, and every skeptical eyebrow. No criticism, real or perceived, is too small for notice. And retribution.

Yet, the media continue to feed the narrative of Bush as shrugging of the "carping of the chattering classes." The "chattering classes" (there's more than one?) have given Bush the easiest of easy rides, letting whopper after whopper go unchallenged. So much so that this train wreck of an administration, this unmitigated disaster of a man, continues to enjoy double-digit support. He's wrecked the economy, wrecked the military, and his reckless policies have killed thousands, if not millions. And the media continue to feed the narrative, to the ruin of their own credibility. Every now and then a story like this somehow leaks out into the public eye, and yet the media seem completely oblivious to the heavy self-indictment it carries of their craven complicity in the crimes of the corrupt Bush administration.

28. They adhere to the narrative because they don't know what else to do.
Or even care for that matter. The government and corporations planned a narrative where a false flag attack is used as a pretext to loot the Treasury, invade and occupy sovereign states to capture natural resources, divide the electorate to steal elections, and remove civil liberties to prevent dissent. The script involves nationalism, fear, authoritarianism, xenophobia, and dogmatism repeated incessantly by media outlets to achieve the desired effect.

Somewhere, I believe, something went wrong. WMD should have been in Iraq. PNAC hadn't been planning this for years, only to have it blow up in their faces.

14. FINALLY! This hits a reputable magazine. Barack has to use this.
I want to hear him quote this article, just to get it out there.

Maybe his surrogates can do it, but, I want this to be known as "The newsweek leak story."

24. Actually It's not a crime. The President has the authority to declassify information.
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 04:15 PM by Wizard777
He wasn't deposed or didn't testify under oath. So you can't nail him for perjury if he said he didn't. He could also claim Ruse of war. Which is legal.

29. Who didn't know this? Darth is setting the policy. Chimpster is the figurehead
in the way the Queen of England is. He is only capable of vile politics and payback. He was in the "enforcer" role in his pappy's administration.
