AP Breaking: Gingich has affair during the Clinton impeachment
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 09:23 PM by Perky
By BEN EVANS
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich acknowledged he was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity.

"The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge," the former Georgia congressman said of Clinton's 1998 House impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges. "I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept ... perjury in your highest officials."

36. Didn't wife #2 bring that up during divorce?
He was actually seen in public resturants with the mistress during the impeachment.

Wife #2 was really, really ticked off. I guess she missed it that he was a snake.

It must have been ok with her for him to tell Wife #1 he was leaving her just after she came out of cancer surgery. What timing!

He is into serial monogamy. He won't stay with wife #3 either. I wonder if she sincerely thinks he will be true?

Tell me again, Newt, why we need to protect Marriage from the gays?

45. I bet if there were a $42 million investigation into Newt's private life...
...he would have been asked if he was cheating on his wife and he would have perjured himself at first by saying "No".

24. While I love the turnabout, I don't like the thought of giving Gingrich that much prestige.
He was a vermin in his personal life as well as his professional life. He was as untrustworthy for the nation as he was for his myriad wives. Quoting him makes me choke on my previous meal.

Just sayin'. :)

13. HA! That sucker really IS going to run in 08!
He's airing his own dirty laundry before his opposition has a chance to do it, and he's relying on the "Oh I've been a sinner, but I'm reborn now" excuse to save him.

The problem, as I see it, is if he hadonly screwed up ONCE,that tactic might work, but poor Newtie just never learns. Three marriages, asking his wife for a divorce while she was still in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery, playing around with youngerwomen while he was still married. We're not talking about a single lapse here, were talking about a pattern!

What a bunch of friggin' bullshit. He was not having any such conversation with himself; he was gleefully shouting "we finally got the bastard" both inside and outside, while being worried sick he was gonna get caught.

The lyin' sack thinks the current confusion and national angst over the Iraq fiasco and cheneybush's duplicity will make him the beneficiary, reawakening his chances of a stealth entry to the white house.

Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 09:45 PM by Canuckistanian
The whole "I didn't have sex with that woman", while receiving bl*wj*bs from "that woman" was because of Mr. Newt's pioneering efforts in that area.

On edit: Not to excuse Clinton's behavior on this matter.

33. Cue the B-roll footage!
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 10:48 PM by TwoSparkles
Let's all cue the footage of Gingrich's sanctimonious, vitriolic and holier-than-thou
rhetoric--when it came time to lambasting and judging Clinton.

Newt doesn't get it. It's not about WHAT he did---it's about his hypocrisy and his
willingness to destroy a man--for things that he was doing himself!

Furthermore, Newt claims that he cannot "accept...perjury in your highest officials". However,
screwing your wife over by screwing someone else---is something that he can accept in himself
and in our nation's highest officials (namely himself, Speaker of the House?). Newt acts as if
perjury was much, much worse than being married and buttering someone else's pancakes.

How dare he sell us this load of crap, and expect us to ignore the stench!

These complete conscious-lacking thugs insult us at every damn turn. Gingrich lived a lie
during the impeachment, and he's sat comfortable in it for years. His recent disclosure is
designed to give him the upper hand--when it comes to marketing and spinning his lies, moral
hypocrisy, and screwing around on his wife---so he can run for President.

Newt figures this is a stellar marketing move.

Now, the country will be forced to bear witness, while the Pillsbury Dough Boy spins his 'fucking around' into
sparkly rainbows and pretty sunshine.

38. ARGH! WHAT FELONY?!?
There was a stipulation as to what "sex" meant. It meant vaginal intercourse, in terms of that trial. There was no vaginal intercourse. Therefore "I did not have sex with Monica Lewinsky" was legally true. Ethically it was a lie, but legally true. That's how simple it is.

Blowjobs don't bother me that much.

40. "Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed", he said.
Deeply embarrassed? Since when has a conservative ever been "deeply embarrassed"? They have no face. They have no shame.

All they have to do is mention God, as I note Gingrich did in his statement, and all is forgiven. George Bush is born again and his drug and alcohol abuse disappears. Ted Haggard spends a few days talking to God in private and his own infidelity is washed away. Scooter Libby is just convicted on four felony counts and he shows not one ounce of contriteness but instead proclaims his innocence and criticizes the legal system through his attorney. And Ann Coulter? Well she doesn't even know the meaning of the term "embarrassed".

These people get deeply embarrassed? Really?

42. I thought this was common knowledge.
As I said on another thread:

I live in the DC area and sometime after the Clinton thing my husband and I went to a dinner party near Capital Hill which had a mix of repugs and dems, mostly repugs.

One of the repugs was talking about what a nice person Newt's new wife was, she knew her, and so then I commented "Well, I find it interesting that Newt was having an affair with her while he was married and at the same time going after Clinton for the same thing."

Total silence. We weren't invited back.
