Are we cooked frogs?
If you put a frog in a pot of boiling water, he will jump right out. However, if you put that frog in the another pot of water and slowly turn the heat up,

he will sit there until he is cooked. Have we been the proverbial frog over the last years as our rights have been trampled?(We as in the American people.)

Did we jump in the pot out of fear after 9/11 and then fail to notice as Bushco slowly turned the heat up? Can we still jump out or are we done?

1. Yep. We are.
And I don't know about jumping out. That's the beauty of this technique. We don't notice the changes as they occur, only when it becomes too late.

7. I have a theory that I call The Edge of the Table.
They will push an issue to the Edge of the Table, right to the critical point where the issue begins to tip and get a little unwanted attention.

Then they will quit pushing, wait for the Table to expand (recognizing the lack of any kind of attention span in Dumbass America).

As soon as The Edge expands (and the public drifts on to the latest Dancing With the Stars, or whatever), they start pushing again.

It is really so darned simple.

2. Eeeewww. Do I hafta do any of that? It's not easy being green.

It's not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold...
or something much more colorful like that.

It's not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ord'nary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
or stars in the sky.

But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain,
or tall like a tree.

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.

3. Theres two frogs in the pot
Both the unconstitutional restrictions on our freedoms coupled simultaneously with the deliberately fabricated economic crisis.

It really seems that the two issues are connected somehow.

6. Yes, we are...of course
We have been on a right-wing roller coaster to fascism since 1980, and the speed has been increasing. Nothing matters anymore but the "welfare" of the filthy rich and corporate profits. I hope we can jump out of the pot, but it may very well be too late.

9. Some of us certainly are but don't know it yet.
Those of us who saw it coming and got out of debt have jumped out of the pot. Whether or not we jumped in time remains to be seen.

The frogs who are depending on debt are still in that pot and the liquid is coming to the full boil now. There is no way for them to get out now.

12. I believe they put the frogs in the water about the time of the McCarthy Era's Red Scare
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 05:24 PM by Uncle Joe
with the attack against freedom of speech and association by waging a witch hunt against a political party calling it Un-American and not just that political party but against other people considered unfavorable to those in power. I believe in truth that movement was in fact a preeminent strike against possible political opposition by the military industrial complex; of which former General and President Eisenhower would later warn against gaining too much power whether sought or unsought in his farewell speech.

(Fear is the motivator)

I believe they put the pot on simmer with the Orwellian "War Against Drugs" first they came for the drug users but many people weren't drug users so they didn't care. Thus they turned what should be a medical/educational/right of privacy issue in to a criminal one. Thereby disenfranchising a sizable percent of the American People from participation in "We the people's" government.

(Fear is the motivator)

Then they added vegetables to the pot by consolidating the corporate media making it easier to use as a propaganda machine rather than a free press; of which the founders had envisioned. Thus they turned what should be an independent voice and powerful watchdog representing the interests of the people in to a distorted one way mega phone and brainwashing mechanism for the oligarchs and corporations.

(Ignorance is the magnifier)

Then they added spices by creating a for profit prison industry whose lobbyist's sole motivation for greasing the palms of the people's representatives would be a more draconian government, with the obvious common sense logic of more prisoners more profit. This would also work to curtail public opposition to outlandish taxes being spent on housing the world's largest imprisoned population. a little over two million, the last time I checked. If you didn't support them, you could be labeled "soft on crime".

(Fear is the motivator)

Then they set the table by morphing "The War Against Drugs" in to "The War Against Terror", thus turning an eternal war against an inanimate object in to a perpetual war against an emotion. P.S. they also created their own private mercenary army in Blackwater and the like to serve as an end around to public accountability while this had a dual purpose of serving as a private corporate leech to military resources, thus weakening the supposed publics' government even more.

Here is Blackwater at work today.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3722411

(Fear is the motivator)

Now they're cracking open a bottle of Chablis to go with their dinner of frog legs and vegetables by using their corporate media propaganda machine to attack the last true vestige of the First Amendment; that being the Internet. Should that battle be won by them, we're cooked and ready to eat.

(Fear is the motivator and ignorance is the magnifier)

Through all of those stages I listed above, they have attacked in one form or another the very foundation of the American People's freedom or Bill of Rights, that being The First, Fourth, Sixth, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Amendments of the Constitution.

Thanks for the thread, tannybogus.

17. perhaps we are .
After all we did allow the last 8 years to go on as it has and did nothing much of any impact to even slow it down.

Sort of like knowing your car is near emtpy and then waiting for the next time while you end up stranded wishing you had done what you should have done.

There is so much crap going on all at once that it is difficult to see most of it coming while we are distracted.
