2. Yes -- WE know that --
and I dare say Obama does, too, but it seems to be impossible to convince the American public of that.

4. And I don't know of a single royalty owner whose income has increased...
by anywhere near the rate of $/bbl.

And there are no pesky land-owners offshore.

And the American Public is about 98% dumbass.

7. Oil royalties
Are typically a % of the oil from the wells, at market prices. My experience has been that royalty owners are doing very well indeed.

8. They are doing OK, but I don't know anyone whose income has increased by %500.
Do you?

I sure as hell wish I did, because life would be a heck of a lot easier on this end.

17. Everyone's royalties have increased, I had one place I had to call because I had never bothered to
cash their checks before. I had to call them to remember where the interest is.

18. That's not what I was saying.
I said that I don't know anyone whose royalties have increased 500%.

But, hey, man, if yours have, more power to you.

You can buy the next round, RG.

Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil and the rest of the world developing oil resources= good.

USA doing the same thing = bad.

14. Who says it's good?
The world is running out of oil, and these sources/finds aren't going to do much in the long run but give the profiteers more excuse to keep blocking the development of alternative energy sources and technologies -- as they have done for the last 30 years.

If you're happy now with fuel prices and the lack of alternatives, just wait another 30 years. You'll be ecstatic.

6. Because no one's reporting it?
Just like no one's reporting that one of the main reasons electricity costs are jumping is because most of our utilities are coal-fired, but we're selling a lot of our coal abroad.

The government would have a hard time defending the "free market" to Americans if these inconvenient truths were widely disclosed.

13. Americans firmly believe in Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, "free markets", and similar fantasies.
"Free markets" imply that there is "competition". Competition can only exist when no single entity, or group of entities, controls a "market". When you have a handful of corporations in collusive agreements such as NAFTA, the WTO, the IMF, OPEC, etc., there is no competition and no free market.

It is simple economics by definition. However, most Americans prefer to cling to their fantasies.

This is why it takes some kind of disaster to get Americans to wake up to reality. Even then, many will backslide into fantasy when the immediate crisis recedes.

Aside from the fact that it would take years to bring offshore or Alaskan oil to market, at which time the "demand" side of the equation would be different, there is nothing to prevent the oil companies from diverting this oil to China or some other market and still charge Americans $4.00-plus (or more) per gallon of gas. Just because the oil companies say that they will lower gas prices if you let them drill offshore, doesn't mean that they will do it.

Americans, as a group, have to be the most gullible people on earth.

the drilling and because not enough Americans are smart enough to understand that simple concept about the oil sales.

when the subject comes up.

They say 'Drill' and I say Why? A) what ever is drilled has to go to market and B) your not going to see a drop of that in your tank fro 10 fucking years.
