3. Jeffrey Dahmer - a nice guy
Quiet, reserved, wouldn't hurt a flea. I'm sure that's what his neighbors reported.

4. Nor is he a "scapegoat".
He is a willing accomplice in high crimes worthy of the rope.

9. He *is* a scapegoat.
He lied to protect his boss and his own career. That is an incredibly minor crime in the scheme of things. Despite having no role in the leak, he ended up being the only one to face the consequences, Cheney and Rove escaped the axe. If Libby isn't a scapegoat, I don't know who is.

He's a guilty, evil bastard, yeah. He deserves his sentence. But his sentence ought to have been a footnote in the papers rather than the only headline of note.

12. He is a willing accomplice. Scapegoating implies innocence.
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 08:34 PM by Contrite
He was not innocent of what he was involved in. He knew the possible consequences. He was no victim of others' mistakes. He was a victim of his own mistakes.

13. No, he's the "fall guy". A scapegoat is an innocent who gets screwn for something
done by somebody else. Scooter isn't innocent, he just drank the hemlock to protect Cheney who was the real
criminal.

"A fall guy is a person used as a scapegoat to take the blame for someone else's actions, or someone at the butt of jokes. One placed in the position of fall guy is often referred to as "taking the fall". In the film industry, a fall guy is a form of stock character.

Origin

The word's origin dates back to the 1920s, during the administration of U.S. President Warren G. Harding (1921 - 1923). The term is allegedly named for Albert B. Fall, a U.S. Senator from New Mexico who served as Secretary of the Interior during Harding's years in office and became notorious for his involvement in the infamous Teapot Dome Scandal."

Since Scooter knew that Cheney leaked Plame's ID, then how could he be the "Fall guy"? He wasn't innocent, so how could he be used? He knew what he was doing and he knew the possible consequences. He was Marc Rich's lawyer, for Pete's sake. I doubt he thought he would be taking the fall or be scapegoated for anything. He knew he would stand in Cheney's place, if things got back to Vice. Vice gave him no choice, either. He did as he was told, as part of his job, and took his chances at getting caught in this web of lies.

I will agree with the Fall guy characterization based on this: It is often joked among historians that Fall was "so crooked they had to screw him into the ground" upon his death.

5. Didn't people say that Jeffrey Dahmer acted like a wonderful guy, the salt of the earth?
I seem to recall hearing people interviewed after Dahmer was arrested, saying how shocked they were to find out he was capable to killing and eating body parts of his victims, considering that he acted like "such a nice guy".

Even "nice guys" can have lapses and break the law and should be accorded no favors. Whether someone is a "nice guy" or not should not matter. And isn't it interesting that jurors felt Libby was a "nice guy" based only on his recorded Grand Jury testimony? Didn't they ask themselves why he didn't choose to impress them with how nice a guy he was by taking the stand in his own trial and telling his own side of the story?

6. Tweety last nite -- "Scooter, if you are such a nice guy, why were you coming after me? "
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 08:31 PM by emulatorloo
This was after Juror 10 said Scooter "seemed nice"

Tweety got a wicked look on his face and said

MATTHEWS: Scooter, if you are such a nice guy, why were you coming after me? That is what I want to know?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17517888/

Basically Ted Wells worked his magic on the jury. However, they still thought he was GUILTY>

19. A nice guy with a cowboy hat!
MATTHEWS: (INAUDIBLE) you, did you feel affection for him?

REDINGTON: Sure. Yes. I mean, he looked like a really nice guy.

You know, Judith Miller told this story about him in Wyoming and his cowboy hat. And I have lived out West, and just—you know, I can picture it so perfectly and Scooter at the rodeo and I—you know, he.

8. He thought nothing about putting a woman with small children in harm's way.
Or ruining her career. She was an employee of the US govt doing her job.

And he cared nothing about the other CIA agents he placed in danger who may have been killed.

I as a taxpayer pay his salary, he is supposed to be helping the govt function better, not destroying it.

They are all sociopaths. And should have been given the maximum sentence for treason.

Ah yes, I know the media is on to that outrage. NOT. Where the hell is O'Reilly on this? Don't answer. (actually those are just words, freedom of speech!-sending people to their death based on lies is a wee bit worse)
