Quesetion? About speed of News Here..
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 10:02 AM by Stuart G
Let's say, I use Democratic Underground my major source of news. I forget the radio, TV, and many other sites on the net.

.. If some sort of important "breaking news" occurs, how long would it be,in your opinion, before we see it here? (at Latest Breaking News Forum) Just curious. Thanks for input..

1. You might get a little behind in the
Britney news.. or the latest gory murder, or kidnapping..

You will be WAY ahead in any news that "doesn't fit" the "conventional wisdom" narrative. (i.e. the stuff that you have to read the foreign press to find out about)

2. Depending on the time of day
within seconds of it hitting a major newswire. There are a couple of members her that are very fast on that type of thing.

4. Why I ask this..
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 10:13 AM by Stuart G
I am really sick of the Main Stream News..Especially radio and TV. They are both so slanted for GOP, and right wing views, that I just might turn them off forever. Even some of the interview shows make me angry. Exceptions of course..but, I honestly cannot tell you how angry I get for the unfair coverage of Obama, and progressive ideas, as well as the soft ball approach given to a certain President now in office who fails to even try to tell the truth. The radio and TV act as if he is telling the truth..Screw em, and perhaps this is just as fast..

6. So, you're wondering if just using DU will be sufficient
If you are a savvy user, absolutely. But there is huge bandwidth here so it can get a bit difficult sometimes. But the information is here.

8. I read 2 news papers - No tv at all & PBS on the car radio.
And of course DU.
To answer your question, usually a day and sometimes up to a full week, depending on how embarrassing it is to our criminals masters and how world news worthy it is.
The subject matters also as to the timing.

9. pretty quick
however I like to look at any story I am really interested in from as many slants as possible. I do not want to be accused of only reading news that speaks to my leftist views. It is always informative to look at the conservative take on any given story. Ignoring your enemies is perilous.

11. There's a few print media types here at DU.......
sitting in cubicles in front of monitors, quite few bloggers too. Time wise I would guess, based on my own experience, 24-48 hr.s ahead of MSM if it makes it there at all and at least 48 hr.s ahead of our own Orlando Slantinel.

Another good source and how I linked to DU back in spring 2001 is www.buzzflash.com scroll to the bottom of the buzzflash page and you'll find links to news from Pravda to the Sacramento Bee.

12. Blink...
If it happens somewhere in the real world you can blink and someone will be talking about it here. Can't count the times I've watched the network evening news and said to myself "Yawn...I knew about that story yesterday!

13. A moment to say Thank You..
I will just listen to quiet music on the radio. The news on the radio and TV is old and rotten. DU. is better.
