John Kerry just wiped the floor with Lieberman - Stayed on his ankle
like a terrier.
Good on Kerry - Lieberman seemed like a little snot nosed brat - filled to the gills with the most recent republican talking points.
Brokaw is so wrong for this job - he can't direct the traffic

1. Lieberman is never much scrutinized by the FOX News types who
interview him as he spews pro-Republican positions, but against Democrats like Kerry, Lieberman is a house of cards.

28. "Surgical" is such a descriptive...
...word for Kerry in interviews. He really focuses in on the points to rebut and the ones he intends to make...like a laser! He get the job done EVERY time. He is a real asset to Obama.

29. Agree. A true-blue, deep-down asset.
And shame on the people in this nation who thought George W. Bush was a superior public servant than John Kerry.

Shame on them.

Shame on their worthless bones.

17. Oh, Brokaw didn't join the dog pile?
Color me surprised as all get out. The media's job the last couple of decades seems to have been to survey the carnage on the political battlefield and shoot the surviving wounded. Maybe that's all changing now that the wounded are Republicans like Lieberman?

Note to self: Learn to use "sarcasm" smiley.

4. I turned the TV off in anger when Kerry said talked about drilling
off our shores to help fix the Washington political gridlock. That is what Pelosi did--compromise FISA / IRAQ. I am getting tired of dems refusing to stand up for what is right.

5. it's optics,
the gopigs were trying to paint Obama 'anti bottom line' and Obama shrugged his shoulders: who cares about offshore drilling - a criminal gang is in charge of the government, biz and media! Remember months ago the revelation Obama said reagan was 'inspiration'? Or Obama's recent 'vows' to israel? It's precisely because obama has avoided hitting these landmines (and being blown outta the water) that we're arguing about him today. Just to survive in the ted bundy media world is a great achievement...

6. There are already places approved for offshore drilling.
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 09:20 AM by beachmom
And as to new ones, limited in scope, environmental groups will immediately sue. Frankly, I doubt any of them will be drilled. I also was annoyed with this shift by Obama (and Kerry is an Obama surrogate here), but the more I thought about it, the more sound it is. The polls show 60% of Americans are for offshore drilling. You can't fight that. This has little to do with Republicans but with the American people.

The most infuriating thing about the Bush Administration was that they only represented their voters. To hell with everyone else, who didn't vote for Bush. I do not want the Democratic version of that. Obama will govern everyone, even those who vote for McCain. So you're going to have to brace yourself -- you are not going to get everything you want, but Obama will steer the ship in the direction you want.

And yet the American people are STILL for it.

25. You should have left the TV on and you completely got it wrong
You totally mischaracterized Kerry's comment. 1) he said he, personally, is against it and 2) he explained that Obama is for it ONLY if it is the only way to break the grid lock and only with qualifications. The one who sold his soul there was Lieberman who was as pro-drilling as anyone in spite of having had in 2004 a lifetime LCV rating in the 90s. Kerry made the statement that the issue was
"fraudulent" in two separate comments - just the same as he always did. Kerry actually did stand up for all the things he always did, but he explained Obama's position.

Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 01:17 PM by Lisa0825
He kept trying to ask pointless questions about stupid things like the "face on the dollar bills" and Kerry and LIEberman kept ignoring those questions and arguing about whatever they wanted. Kerry did a very nice job swatting the pesky little bug that kept buzzing in his ear.

Frankly, the less I hear from a moderator, the better the discussion can be in these situations. Kerry did a terrific job touching on all sorts of important issues and didn't let anything side-track him.

So I don't think it was going the way he intended, but it was better in the way that they actually discussed substantive issues, which the MSN generally does poorly.

39. Lieberman did have his whine on there.
I didn't find Kerry's performance all that overwhelming. Of course, I dont' like Kerry. The comment about Wes Clark on John McCain was weasely, and saying that HolyJoe would still be welcome in the Democratic caucus once we don't need him was weasely.

42. I thought so too
And wondered why Brokaw didn't attempt to "even things out" as so many of these moderators do when the Democrat is shining.

I think Lieberman came off as whiney and whimpy - no surprise. He had nothing cogent to say, and only wanted to repeat his excuses for why John McCain is such a great guy.

I loved when Kerry asked him about his own about-face on off-shore drilling. You know, in his first senate run, Lieberman tried to position himself as the environmental guy. Amazing what he'll do for love, huh?
